Caf Confederation Cup Group B preview: Al Hilal host Berkane in bid to avoid elimination

Al Hilal are staring elimination from the Caf Confederation Cup ahead of Sunday’s hosting of RSB Berkane at Al Hilal Stadium.

Knowing well that a defeat or a draw will send them packing out of the tournament, Al Hilal have in their hands the biggest assignment since the 2015 Caf Champions League semifinal.

The Omdurman side have just three points from as many draws, plus a defeat by Berkane in the reverse fixture in June.

That has placed them on third position and four points behind the second-placed Moroccans.

All of Al Hilal’s hopes are on beating Berkane on Sunday and then another win over leaders Al Masry in their last game.

They will also be hoping that Berkane fall to UD Songo in the closing group match.

But for now, the Sundanese, led by Senegalese coach Lamine N’diaye have to worry about Berkane who lost away at Al Masry in their last game.

It would be a second straight away game for Berkane, and Al Ahly have home advantage to exploit.

Under such pressure on home turf, winger Sharaf Eldin Ali is expected to be the leading light for Al Hilal while their Tanzanian striker Thomas Ulimwengu is another man to watch.

Elsewhere in Mozambique, basement side Singo welcome leaders Al Masry.

The Egyptians arrive at Ferroviario Stadium high in confidence after claiming top spot in their last game in which they edged Berkane 1-0 whom they dislodged from the summit.

Still the only side unbeaten in Group B, victory for Al Masry will see them finish the campaign as leaders.

A draw for Hossam Hassan’s Al Masry will still not complicate their lives ahead of the final group Matchday despite being just a point above second-placed Berkane.
