Betting: Wrexham 6/1 to earn promotion ahead of sale to Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney

The takeover of Wrexham by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney has been given the green light after the supporters’ trust overwhelmingly voted in favour of the sale.

After nine years under the control of the trust, members agreed to sell the club to the two famous actors after a 91.5 per cent turnout.

Currently sitting 14th in the National League after six games, Wrexham are 14/1 (15.0) with bet365 to win the division and earn promotion to the Football League after 13 years away.

'Deadpool' star Reynolds and McElhenney, who is best known for his work on 'It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia', plan to inject £2 million into the club as they aim to restore the Welsh side to their former glory.

Since being relegated from League Two in 2008, Wrexham have spent 12 seasons in the National League with varying degrees of success, finishing in the top five on four separate occasions and losing in the play-off final in 2013.

It is 6/1 (7.0) that the Robins earn promotion via any means this season although Dean Keates’ side have faltered after a strong start to the campaign.

Indeed, Wrexham opened with two wins in three games but a run of just one point from their next three fixtures means they are already 12 points off pace-setters Torquay United at the top of the division.

Only one team gets automatically promoted from the National League, the top division of non-league, whilst those finishing between second and seventh all qualify for the play-offs.

It was only two seasons ago that Wrexham lost in the play-offs and another top-seven finish is available at 10/11 (1.91), meaning bet365 believe they are more likely than not to at least have a chance at promotion come the end of the season.

Fans of the Welsh side will be hoping Reynolds and McElhenney can inspire success much like the ‘Class of 92’ did at Salford City, with the Manchester side climbing four divisions since the takeover by the likes of Gary Neville and David Beckham in 2014.

The next match on the fixture list for Wrexham is a trip to Hartlepool United and bet365 make the visitors 17/10 (2.70) outsiders to get back on track with three points, with the home team priced at 31/20 (2.55).
