While Lionel Messi leads the goalscorers market, Los Blancos' French striker is in great form and should be backed to continue his scoring run

Barcelona face Real Madrid in El Clasico on Wednesday evening with the Catalans sweating on the fitness of Lionel Messi.

The Argentine picked up a knock in Saturday's La Liga draw with Valencia, and it remains to be seen whether or not he will feature in this week's Copa del Rey semi-final first leg.

Messi also missed the last meeting between these two sides in October, although his absence was not felt too keenly as the Blaugrana triumphed 5-1 in La Liga.

Latest odds

The memory of that success will ease the worries of Barca fans should Messi not be fit enough to take part in Wednesday's game.

There is no doubt, however, that the 31-year-old is crucial to the Catalans' hopes and in La Liga this season he has been involved in 52 per cent of their goals (21 scored and 10 assists).

888Sport offer Messi at 5/6 (1.83) to score at any time and at 31/10 (4.10) in the first goalscorer market. He is just ahead of Luis Suarez, who is priced at 26/25 (2.04) to score, with Philippe Coutinho priced at 11/5 (3.20).

Brilliant Benzema

While they may no longer have Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid do boast an extremely in-form Karim Benzema.

The Frenchman is enjoying arguably the best spell of his decade-long career in the Spanish capital, scoring goals and brimming with confidence.

The 31-year-old is Madrid's main goal threat and with the visitors capable of getting on the scoresheet (something they have done in their last 14 visits to the Camp Nou), then Benzema looks like a solid option in the anytime goalscorer market.

Tips and predictions

Benzema is available at 11/5 (3.20) to find the back of the net on Wednesday which looks like a generous price.

Also worthy of consideration is backing Sergio Ramos to score at 21/4 (6.25), with the Real Madrid captain having netted ten times in all competitions this term and being his team's designated penalty taker.
