Ghana and Schalke 04 defender Abdul Baba Rahman faces a spell on the sidelines after suffering what is believed to be a thigh injury in his side's 1-0 win over Uganda in the Africa Cup of Nations Group D opening game on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old featured from the start but was forced to leave the pitch on 39th minute after clashing with an opponent and replaced with Anderlecht star Frank Acheampong.

Baba attempted to thwart the effort of his marker, ending up picking a knock on his knee.

West Ham United midfielder Andre Ayew scored the only goal of the game from the spot on 30th minute after captain Asamoah Gyan was brought down by Isaac Isinde.

Ghana's medical team will run tests on the defender on Wednesday to confirm the degree of the injury and subsequently prescribe recovery plans, before the second group game against Mali on Friday.

Baba, who has been capped 24 times for Ghana without scoring a goal, is making his second Afcon after his debut in 2015.
