Ghana assistant coach Ibrahim Tanko has revealed that Andre and Jordan Ayew were overlooked ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifier against Uganda because the technical team wants to give opportunities to new players.
Reports suggest they fell out with the coach after failing to make the trip to Brazzaville for the World Cup qualifying game against Congo. But Tanko has a contrary view.
“The Ayew brothers were left behind for the Uganda match because we want to try other players," Tanko was quoted as saying by Ghanaweb.com.
"Just as we did to include Mubarak Wakaso and others but for captain Asamoah Gyan, we are still monitoring him because of the injury he sustained.
“The final 23-man squad for the Uganda trip will be announced on Friday and so let us wait for it and see who will make the list,” he added.
Ghana need the maximum points to stand a chance to qualify to the World Cup from Group E.
The Black Stars are expected to open their camping ahead of the game in Kenya before they depart on October 6.
