Ashanti Gold have parted ways with head coach C.K Akonnor, the club have announced.
This comes following reports that Akonnor had abandoned his work to appear as a TV pundit for the ongoing World Cup in Russia while the players trained under his assistants.
"Ashanti Gold SC has today disengaged with the services of its head coach Mr. C.K Akonnor," a club statement read.
"Whilst there is a huge sentiment for Mr. Akonnor, who has done so much for the club both as a player and coach, the decision was taken in the best interest of Ashanti Gold.
"Management would like to place on record Mr. Akonnor’s tremendous contribution to the club in the last one year, and as such, would like to thank him and wish him well in his future endeavors," the statement added.
Akonnor, who also played for Ashanti Gold, joined the club last season, replacing Bashir Hayford and guided the team to avoid relegation.
Ashanti Gold sit second on the log with 27 points.
