Akowuah hands transfer request to Hearts of Oak

Hearts of Oak midfielder Malik Akowuah has handed in a transfer request ahead of the 2017-18 Ghana Premier League season, with two years left on his contract.

The 28-year-old, who joined the Phobians from Medeama following an inspiring campaign in the Caf Confederations Cup in 2016, has grown frustrated at the lack of opportunities within the outfit as well as ‘constant verbal abuses’ from coach Frank Nuttall.

"It's true that I have submitted my transfer request to Hearts of Oak and I want things done amicably before the new seasons kicks off," Akowuah told Fox FM.

"The coach doesn't have good relationship with me so I'm not happy to be here any longer. He continues to bring new players from outside to come and play at the expense of me. I won't play for the club any longer.

"Moreover, he at times assaults me verbally and an example was after our defeat to Medeama in the Ghalca G8 pre-season tournament. He even told me that I'll never have game time under him," he added.

Goal understands that Ghana Premier League debutants Karela FC as well as former side Medeama and a host of unnamed foreign clubs have expressed interest to sign the player.
