Shillong Lajong have a long way to go after failing to pick a win in the last five matches that has seen them lose four times. Considering that, they have no one but themselves to blame for letting go of a two-goal advantage as they allowed Minerva Punjab to split a point.
The Reds from the northeast, who have decided to field an all-Indian squad this from the North-East region this season, usually rely on counter-attacks and look to force errors with their quick gameplay.
Both of Lajong's goals against Minerva by Phrangki Buam and Samuel Lyngdoh were scored from counter moves. However, when opponents exert pressure on them, Lajong are hardly able to cope, evidenced by the fact that they have conceded the most number of goals (14) among all teams so far.
The hosts will be looking to move up the standings from the relegation spot as soon as possible as they have four points from six outings.
NEROCA FC too are not far off from the bottom with just a point more than Lajong but have the advantage of a game in hand. Manuel Retamero's outfit play their fourth consecutive away game after losing the last one 2-1 against Chennai City FC.
Nigerian striker Felix Chidi will be a man to look out for having scored twice in their first away win of the season against Real Kashmir. He will have to build on his performance while Subhash Singh also needs to step up.
The Manipuri side have a better team on paper considering the likes of Italian goalkeeper Mauro Boerchio, Liberian defender Varney Kallon and the Australian Aryn Williams to guard their goal while Malemnganba Meitei and Ronald Singh have been impressive going forward.
Can Shillong Lajong outwit their opponents or will NEROCA FC have it easy on Sunday?
