Commentary

That's all from the Parc des Princes today, so thank you for joining us and goodbye!
While Paris will at least be tied at the top on points after Ligue 1's seventh round, and next travel to Israel, where they meet Maccabi Haifa; 17th-placed Brest must wait eight days to tackle Ajaccio in their next top-flight fixture.
Requiring more resilience than inspiration, Paris Saint-Germain return to the top of Ligue 1 with an ultimately close-run victory over struggling opponents. Perhaps suffering the effects of a Champions League hangover, the hosts were fitfully creative in the opening hour, yet it took a Donnarumma penalty save to secure maximum points as they ran out of steam towards the end. Brest deserve great credit for their endeavour throughout, but will regret they couldn't seize their chance to cause an upset.
90' + 6' FULL-TIME: PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN 1-0 BREST
90' + 4' It's a nervy finish here at the Parc des Princes, and some spiky challenges have been coming in during the closing stages. Surely the hosts will hang on, though, and secure yet another win?
90' + 2' Kimpembe makes his way down the tunnel as we enter the third of five minutes added on for stoppages. There is no-one to replace him, as Paris have used all five substitutes.
90' Somehow escaping censure for a sliding studs-up challenge, Kimpembe goes down with an apparent injury, and the game is brought to a temporary halt.
I. Cardona
H. Belkebla
Brest
88' Belkebla is brought off by Michel Der Zakarian, as Cardona comes on.
88' CLOSE! Merely seconds after his arrival from the bench, Marquinhos meets a corner by planting a thumping header wide of the left-hand post from near the penalty spot!
Marquinhos
Vitinha
PSG
87' Vitinha is the latest PSG man to make way, as Marquinhos makes a brief cameo from the bench.
85' Vitinha lets fly with a firm strike from outside the box, but his effort zips wide of the target, at least a yard past the left-hand post.
82' Duverne brings down Mendes on the wing, as PSG attempt to gain territory and wrest back control of this game. They've let things slip over the past 15 minutes, and the three points aren't assured just yet.
Nuno Mendes
Yellow Card
PSG
80' Only moments after arriving on the pitch, Mendes is rightly booked for a lunging challenge on Honorat near the corner flag.
79' SAVE! Kimpembe's nightmarish spell continues, as the Paris captain fails to clear a cross into the six-yard box, which then strikes Slimani and forces Donnarumma into a smart near-post save. Les Pirates are making some headway here!
Nuno Mendes
Juan Bernat
PSG
78' Mendes replaces Bernat on the left flank.
Pablo Sarabia
Neymar
PSG
78' Neymar's day is done, as Sarabia comes on for the final stages.
H. Ekitike
K. Mbappé
PSG
78' Hometown hero Mbappe is also withdrawn, to save his legs for more substantial tests ahead: Ekitike comes on up front.
Danilo Pereira
Yellow Card
PSG
77' A clear foul on Lage sees Danilo receive a booking from the referee.
75' As Brest push on in search of an equaliser, Brassier makes a foray forward, and he attempts a speculative 20-yard shot which is saved quite comfortably by Donnarumma in a central position.
73' Having almost let their lead slip, Paris may need some more fresh legs soon - particularly with more Champions League action on the menu next week. Galtier looks to be readying further substitutes.
Mathias Pereira Lage
P. Lees-Melou
Brest
71' A change in midfield sees Lees-Melou coming off to be replaced by Pereira Lage.
J. Uronen
N. Fadiga
Brest
71' Brest respond to the penalty miss by making two more changes. First, Fadiga gives way for Uronen out wide.
G. Donnarumma
Penalty Save
PSG
70' Penalty Save Gianluigi Donnarumma
I. Slimani
Penalty Miss
Brest
70' PENALTY MISS! Slimani spurns the chance to equalise from the penalty spot, by placing his shot to the right side of the goal at a saveable height; allowing Donnarumma to palm it away!
P. Kimpembe
Yellow Card
PSG
69' From out of nowhere, Kimpembe concedes a penalty; fouling Fadiga in the area! He is also shown a yellow card - to his obvious dismay.
68' After Neymar's dinked throughball over the top is blocked, the ball bounces into the path of Messi, who doesn't quite catch all of it with a volleyed shot straight at Bizot from 15 yards.
66' Of his line sharply, Bizot covers across well to block out Hakimi at close quarters, after the wing-back raids into the area from his post out on the right flank. PSG have a corner.
64' Neymar earns a free-kick on the left wing, but Paris are content to play the ball inside and build from midfield rather than attempt a delivery into the box. The direct approach is not their favoured method, but it still seems they're lacking a little urgency.
Fabián Ruiz
M. Verratti
PSG
62' Galtier also takes the opportunity to freshen things up. Verratti is replaced by Ruiz in the PSG midfield.
A. Dari
C. Hérelle
Brest
62' Brest's second change sees a switch of personnel in defence: Herelle makes way for Dari.
H. Magnetti
M. Camara
Brest
62' Brest make a double substitution. First, Camara is replaced by Magnetti.
60' Duverne does well to intervene just inside the area, as a loose touch by Mbappe allows him to steal the ball and get the immediate danger clear. They may be hanging on a little, but Brest remain just one goal behind heading into the final third of the game.
58' WIDE! Messi and Neymar work an opening by exchanging two quick passes on the edge of the box; sliding the ball through for Mbappe to finish. He can't provide the final touch though, as his shot is badly scuffed and drifts past the right-hand post - that should have been PSG's second goal!
56' With a small dose of Brazilian artistry, Neymar delights the Paris crowd by balancing the ball on his head for a moment before letting it drop to his feet, but the hosts' attack breaks down soon after.
54' Though Brest are now getting their foot on the ball a little more, they only have it deep in their own territory, and when they attempt to cross the halfway line they are furiously pressed by the Paris midfield.
52' Indicating the size of Brest's task in the final 45 minutes, PSG are unbeaten in their last 32 Ligue 1 matches when leading at half-time and have won all five from that situation this term.
50' OFF THE POST! Standing the ball up towards the penalty spot from the left byline, Mbappe picks out Messi, who rises highest to head the ball towards the bottom-left corner. His effort bounces and then strikes the base of the post apparently in slow motion, before bobbling away to safety. That was a close call for Brest!
48' After Honorat sends in an outswinging corner from the left, Brest almost force a rare opening, but Paris ultimately manage to get the ball clear; sending the red shirts of the visitors haring back into their own half.
B. Chardonnet
Yellow Card
Brest
46' Within seconds of the whistle blowing for the second half's start, Chardonnet goes into the referee's notebook for taking down Mbappe on the left wing.
46' Honorat kicks off, and we are back under way at the Parc des Princes!
Brest will be grateful to the VAR for overturning Herelle's early red card, and that call has kept their slim hopes of getting something from the game alive. Their defensive record this season leaves a lot to be desired, though, so holding out against a star-studded home team will be a tall order during the second half.
Certainly the dominant force in almost every aspect, Paris took a single-goal lead down the tunnel at the interval - but it really should have been more. Bizot made a couple of important stops, and there were various other openings that the hosts couldn't capitalise on, while Brest fought tirelessly to deny them. We can expect the same pattern of play after the break, but will PSG slip into top gear and blow their modest opponents away?
45' + 3' HALF-TIME: PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN 1-0 BREST
45' + 2' SAVE! Mbappe comes close again, as Verratti and Neymar combine to release him in space, before the PSG striker slams a shot at Bizot from 10 yards out - the well-placed keeper makes a sharp stop.
45' Only the offside flag denies Mbappe an extension to his scoring streak, after he powerfully finishes a flowing PSG move with aplomb.
43' SAVE! Bizot does well to scramble at close range and keep out a scruffy effort by Messi; keeping his side just one goal behind.
42' It remains a dogged resistance from the away side at this stage, as Paris attempt to zip the ball around them with long series of short passes. They've done a lot of hard running, but at least remain in the contest approaching half-time.
Neymar
Yellow Card
PSG
40' A mistimed challenge by Neymar on Lees-Melou results in PSG's first booking of the match.
38' Lees-Melou, already on a yellow card, is pulled up for a foul on Messi deep inside the Brest half. However, Paris then fail to make the most of the set-piece opportunity.
36' Slimani is causing PSG problems up front for the visitors, as he uses his physical presence to win free-kicks from Kimpembe and Ramos in quick succession. Nothing comes of either, though.
34' Messi feeds a ball across to Mbappe on the left, but the Brest defence manage to make a crucial block and survive another scare.
32' Following Neymar's goal, PSG’s new goal difference of +21 is the best any team has managed at this stage of a Ligue 1 season since Reims in 1952.
Neymar
Goal
PSG
30' PARIS LEAD! Two of the illustrious front three combine again; putting PSG in front on the half-hour mark! Neymar receives a precise lofted pass from Messi with a feather-like touch, then fires the ball ruthlessly into the bottom-right corner of Bizot's goal. It's 1-0 to the hosts.
L. Messi
Assist
PSG
30' Taking the ball from Verratti more than 30 yards from goal, Messi picks out a perfect pass to Neymar on the left side of the box; setting up PSG's opener.
27' NO RED CARD! After an interminable delay, the VAR offers their verdict that Herelle's challenge occurred just after a Paris player had been caught offside, so the sending-off is rescinded. It stays 11 versus 11, and we play on.
P. Lees-Melou
Yellow Card
Brest
25' For angrily disputing Herelle's red card, Lees-Melou is the first man booked today.
24' RED CARD? The visitors could be down to 10 men, as Herelle is penalised for bringing down Neymar with a last-ditch swipe 20 yards from goal. The VAR will check the incident over, but it does not look good for the Brest defender!
22' So far, Paris have enjoyed 70 per cent of the possession, and have also dominated in terms of territory. However, they've yet to manage a shot on target, to match Brest's solitary effort by Honorat from 30 yards.
20' CLOSE! Somehow, Bernat finds himself adjacent to the left-hand post of Brest's goal, with space and time to work in. He delays for what seems like an age before cheekily lobbing a pass into the centre; it falls to Messi, whose arrowing effort is deflected wide by an unsuspecting Mbappe.
19' After a disappointing free-kick from Messi on the right side of the box is comfortably headed away from danger, Paris must build again in their attempts to find the opening goal.
17' SAVE! Diving down to his right, Donnarumma is forced to palm away a stinging low drive by Honorat. Though the ball then bounces along the box, there are no Brest forwards available to pick up the rebound.
15' After a relatively cautious start by the hosts, the expected pattern has been set. Indeed, the 10 red jerseys of Brest sit within their own half, trying to soak up Paris' pressure.
13' MISS! After Messi dinks a delightful pass over the top to Bernat, who arrives on the left side of the area, the latter lays the ball off to the on-rushing Mbappe. However, the French forward then blazes a close-range effort over the crossbar.
11' CLOSE! Neymar cushions Messi's ball into the left side of the box, but can't get his foot fully around the ball and steers his attempt into the side-netting from 10 yards out.
9' On a rare break forward, Brest attack down the right. Honorat zips a pacy cross along the six-yard box, and with Slimani arriving at the back post, it seems as though they could score. However, he can't quite reach it on the stretch, and the ball goes out for a throw-in.
7' After nothing ultimately came from the corner - which did trouble the Brest back line and required an important block - Paris are happy to build up from the back, with Danilo and his defensive colleagues exchanging passes as they probe patiently.
5' Breaking forward from the back three, Ramos finds space on the right side of the area and curls in an inviting ball towards the six-yard box; forcing Herelle to head behind for the game's first corner.
3' The PSG fans are typically in fine voice, but it has been a relatively subdued start by their team, who tore into Juventus in the early stages of their midweek Champions League tie.
1' We are under way at the Parc des Princes!
The players are out on the pitch in Paris, with kick-off now just moments away!
As Dari drops to the bench, to be replaced by Chardonnet in the Brest defence, the visitors seem set to cope with PSG's attacking threat by starting with five at the back today. Fadiga has overcome an ankle problem to feature on the right flank, while Honorat and Slimani join forces up front.
Paris make two changes from the side that started their midweek win over Juventus, as Bernat and Danilo come in; Marquinhos and Mendes find themselves demoted to the bench. Vitinha and Verratti retain their places in central midfield, with recent recruits Sanches, Ruiz and Soler forced to wait for a chance to impress. Up front, Messi, Mbappe and Neymar combine again - the trio have scored 17 goals between them already this term.

Brest surely travelled to the capital more in trepidation than hope, as the Breton club have lost each of their last 11 meetings with PSG - a run dating back to September 2011. In fact, they have conceded at least twice in each of the teams' nine most recent meetings. Today, Les Pirates are aiming to avoid a fourth defeat of the season, with setbacks including a 7-1 loss to Montpellier and a 3-1 reverse against Rennes; they were held to a 1-1 home draw by 10-man Strasbourg last weekend.
Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain will be looking to overtake leaders Lens at the top of the table today, by extending their strong run of form. Not only did PSG claim a 2-1 win over Juventus in their opening Champions League Group H game on Tuesday - thanks to Kylian Mbappe's first-half double - but they also beat Nantes 3-0 last weekend. Having won seven and drawn one under new coach Christophe Galitier so far, the hosts last lost in the French top flight back in March.
Hello and welcome to coverage of today's Ligue 1 encounter between Paris Saint-Germain and Brest at the Parc des Princes!
