Mumbai FC have played out a goalless draw against Bengaluru FC at the Cooperage stadium in an I-League round ten encounter. There were chances for either team to notch the full quota of points but it was not to be. The result is Bengaluru FC's fourth straight draw in the league while Mumbai have now gone eight games without a win.
Santosh Kashyap named the same line-up from Mumbai's goalless draw against Sanjoy Sen’s Mohun Bagan side last Wednesday. As for the visiting side, Albert Roca handed starts to three U-22 players in his team - Udanta Singh, Ranjan Singh and Daniel Lalhlimpuia - for the encounter against The Yellows .
The first half witnessed several chances being created in the midfield, especially by Udanta Singh and Alwyn George who stole the lime light for the visitors.
As for the hosts, Brazilian forward Silva was looked to be playing very well. He was accurate with his free-kicks but a lack of finishing shown by his fellow team mates meant that none of the chances were converted.
One of the highlights of the first 45 minutes was when Udanta’s long ranger flew well beyond the Mumbai FC goal. Interestingly, his effort landed right in the middle of a wedding taking place at one end of the Cooperage Stadium. The shot, understandably, was cheered by the delirious fans.
The two sides entered the tunnel at the half-time whistle with the scoreline devoid of goals.
The second half wasn’t as dire as it usually is from The Mumbaikars . The first chance of the second half came in the 51st minute when Alex Willian ran down the field to find Thoi Singh. But, the Manipuri’s delivery was mistimed and went wide.
Further, around the hour mark, Vineeth missed two important chances. First, the Kerala Blasters player stormed through a handful of Mumbai FC’s defenders but curled a left-footed effort wide. Next, the Keralite was fed by Cameron Watson but he failed to get a touch on the ball from close range.
Santosh Kashyap's side had their Afghan defender Sharityar to thank for keeping the scoreline level late on when he cleared away Bengaluru skipper Chhetri’s attempt with a sublime tackle.
Eugeneson Lyngdoh, who was sent on late, had a couple of gilt-edged opportunities but he did not have his shooting boots on as Roca cut a frustrated figure on the touchline.
The game ended in a 0-0 draw with both two sides failing to break the deadlock. The goalless draw meant Bengaluru FC are winless in six games. As for the hosts, they would be glad to clinch at least a point from this tie.
