Commentary

Well, that’s all from me for now. Until next time, goodbye!
It was far from a vintage United display, but a moment of quality from Rashford has ultimately proved the difference, with Gross’ late goal a mere consolation.
Game over at Old Trafford, where first-half goals from Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford have proved enough for Manchester United to claim a sixth successive Premier League win under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and move up to fifth in the table.
90' + 5' FULL TIME: MANCHESTER UNITED 2-1 BRIGHTON.
90' + 4' A nervy moment for De Gea, who rushes out off his line to claim a cross, but fails to get there. Fortunately for him, United’s defence recover to clear their lines.
M. Darmian
M. Rashford
Manchester United
90' + 4' That will be Rashford’s final contribution, as he makes way for Darmian.
M. Rashford
Yellow Card
Manchester United
90' + 3' Reckless play from Rashford, who rightly receives a booking after he lunged in late and high on Montoya down the right.
90' + 1' There will be four minutes added on at Old Trafford.
90' CLOSE! Brilliant play by Pogba, who shrugs off Duffy’s challenge before opening up the space for a shot. He arrows a strike towards the bottom-right corner, but the ball whistles inches wide of the upright.
87' A stoppage in play, after Rashford sustains a knock and has to receive treatment. He isn’t out of action for long, though, and is soon back on the pitch.
85' CLOSE! Knockaert drifts in a superb free-kick, which De Gea attempts to cliam. Duffy is challenging, however, and De Gea can only parry the ball wide for a corner.
R. Lukaku
A. Martial
Manchester United
83' A second change too, from Solskjaer. Martial makes way, with Lukaku coming on.
B. Kayal
P. Groß
Brighton & Hove Albion
82' That will be Gross' final involvement, as Brighton's goalscorer makes way for Kayal.
81' Gross finds space on the edge of United’s area, only to hesitate in getting his shot off, allowing the hosts to clear their lines.
79' Brighton have lost all eight of their Premier League away games against the ‘big six’ sides, but could change that if they grabbed an equaliser in the closing minutes.
77' United need to put this contest to bed, now, and not allow Brighton to build up momentum heading into the closing stages. That earlier miss from Lingard is looking costly…
Mata
J. Lingard
Manchester United
75' It seems that Solskjaer has changed his mind. Lukaku will not be coming on just yet, and instead it is Mata who replaces Lingard.

72' It was a superb cross by Propper with the outside of his boot, and Gross took full advantage.

72' BRIGHTON ARE BACK IN IT! Out of nothing, the visitors have pulled one back!  A cross from the left from Propper finds Gross, who takes a good first touch before prodding a finish in off the underside of the crossbar. Game on!
70' Brighton have managed to get a foothold in the last few minutes, but are offering little going forward. Lukaku, meanwhile, is being readied for action by Solskjaer.
68' Herrera works a decent angle to get a shot off, but his effort is tame and straight at Button, who makes a comfortable stop.
65' United are very nearly through, but Duffy gets back to intervene before Rashford can latch onto a loose ball.
63' United are looking to score at least three goals in four consecutive home league games for the first time since September 2011.
A. Knockaert
S. March
Brighton & Hove Albion
61' March, meanwhile, has been replaced by Knockaert in Brighton’s other change.
F. Andone
G. Murray
Brighton & Hove Albion
60' The first substitutions are about to come on, and it will be a double change for Brighton. The first switch sees Murray make way for Andone.
59' After United fail to clear from a free-kick, the  ball falls kindly for Dunk at the back post. He prods a first-time strike into the side netting, though, and the hosts escape unscathed.
57' CLOSE! Martial looks to get in on the act, brilliantly engineering space with a clever drop of his shoulder before letting rip with a venomous strike that whistles just wide of the post.
55' Rashford is toying with Brighton’s defence at the moment, and very nearly gets a shot off after a weaving run from midfield. The 21-year-old has been fantastic so far.
53' MISS! Rashford turns provider with an exceptional cross from out on the left, with Lingard having timed his run to perfection to get on the end of it. But, from two yards out, the England midfielder can’t hit the target.
50' Rashford goes for goal from a free-kick from a tight angle, but generates too much power on his strike, sending it over the bar.
48' Should Pogba score again, he will become the first United player since Cristiano Ronaldo in November 2008 to score at least twice in three consecutive home games for the club in the Premier League.
46' We’re back up and running at Old Trafford. As it stands, United are cruising to a seventh win under Solskjaer in all competitions, and into fifth place in the Premier League.
Solskjaer will be looking for more of the same from United in the second half, although he will stress that the hosts must not allow Brighton any opportunity to get back into this game. Murray has cut a frustrated figure up top for the visitors, but should have done better with one good chance that came his way.
So far, so good for United, who are well on their way to a sixth successive Premier League win under Solskjaer. Pogba’s penalty put them ahead, before Rasfhord curled in a superb second shortly before the break.
45' + 4' HALF-TIME: MANCHESTER UNITED 2-0 BRIGHTON.
45' + 3' Martial meets Young’s outswinging corner with a glancing header, which takes a deflection on its way through. For a moment, Button appears to be caught underneath it, but Brighton’s goalkeeper sets himself to make the save.
45' + 1' There will be a minimum of three minutes stoppage time.
44' Rashford has now scored in his last four United Premier League appearances, becoming the youngest player to do so.
Diogo Dalot

Manchester United
42' That goal probably came against the run of play. Dalot did well to get forward and thread a neat pass into Rashford, who did the rest.

Goal
Manchester United
42' WHAT A GOAL! RASHFORD MAKES IT TWO! Extraordinary play from Rashford who, after taking in a Dalot pass, gets the better of his marker with some excellent skill before he curls a sublime finish into the far corner from an acute angle.
40' Brighton have their tails up at the moment, and have seen plenty of the ball since they went behind. A low cross from the right causes United’s defence issues, but Young manages to get there ahead of Locadia.
38' Both players will be fit to continue, however, and are now back on the field as we edge towards half-time.
37' A pause in play now, as Martial receives treatment following a collision with Duffy, who also has to get some medical attention.
35' CHANCE! That’s a huge opportunity for Brighton, which Murray has failed to take! A deflected pass fell kindly in his path, but from close range, Murray could only blaze his volley wide of the target.
33' It has been a spirited response from Brighton to going behind, and Murray now has his first effort. The ball comes to him amid a crowd of United defenders, and all the former Crystal Palace man can do is send a snapshot across the face of goal.
31' Brighton take a short corner, but United’s defence are out quickly to prevent the cross. Instead, the play is switched to Bong on the opposite flank, whose dangerous cross is cleared.
29' That is a fifth goal in five games for Pogba, who, like many of United’s attackers, is thriving under Solskjaer’s tutelage.

27' POGBA CONVERTS! No mistake from the Frenchman, who – at the culmination of his familiar stuttering run up – slams home a fantastic finish into the right-hand corner.
25' PENALTY TO UNITED! No hesitation from the referee, as he points straight to the spot after Pogba, who had done brilliantly to bring down a difficult pass, is bundled over from behind by Bong.
24' United are looking to secure six consecutive Premier League victories for the first time since January 2017.
22' United mix it up from the set-piece, going short and finding Rashford in space. He looks to float a cross-shot to the far post, but Button is able to watch it float safely over.
21' CLOSE! An acrobatic attempt from Pogba was heading on target, but a last-ditch challenge from Dunk forces the ball wide and out for a corner.
20' CHANCE! So close to an opener for United! The ball fell to Rashford 10 yards out, and the youngster wasted no time in hammering a first-time strike goalwards, but Duffy is on hand to head clear a yard off the line.
18' Brighton have looked to get back in their solid, defensive shell when United attack, but Locadia has usually stayed high upfield, offering an outball for the counter-attack, and keeping United’s back line on their toes. That is, however, opening up space for Young to attack down the right.
17' Brighton have come into this contest in the last few minutes, and a long ball from deep gets Murray involved. He immediately threads a pass into Locadia’s path, but his cross is directed straight at De Gea.
15' A mistake from Young allows Brighton to win possession high upfield, with the ball very nearly falling to Murray in the area. The striker was flagged offside regardless, however.
14' United have never lost a home match against Brighton in all competitions, winning the last four in a row without conceding.
12' Bong does well to win a corner, having been pinned in by Lingard down Brighton's left side. Duffy is the target from the resultant cross, and wins the header, but De Gea is well placed to make a comfortable save at his near post.
10' A first real sighting of goal for United, as Lindelof meets a corner from the right. The Sweden international gets a decent amount of power on his header, but sends it just off target.
8' High and wide! Under no pressure, Pogba powers forward through midfield, clicking up the gears before letting rip with a shot, but he gets far too much pace on it, and sends the ball into the crowd.
7' A long ball from deep sets March away in Brighton’s first venture forward. The ball is eventually worked into Locadia on the edge of the area, but his deflected effort is easily dealt with by De Gea.
6' United are flooding forward at every opportunity, with Young pushed up almost as an auxiliary right winger at the moment, giving Lingard licence to drift inside and link up with Rashford and Pogba.
5' A neat United move sees Young drive in a low cut-back, but nobody is waiting for it at the edge of the area. Dalot collects the loose ball, shifting it onto his right foot and engineering space for a shot, which is deflected wide.
4' Rashford dummies, and it is Pogba who strikes the ball. Brighton’s wall, however, does its job.
3' Rashford is on fine form in front of goal, and is making his 150th appearance for United in all competitions today. He will be looking to celebrate that milestone with another match-winning performance. And he may well have the chance now, as he, along with Pogba, stands over a free-kick.
2' After that late change for United, Dalot has started at left-back, with Young staying on the right as was initially planned. The England international whips in an early cross, with Rashford waiting for it, but Brighton’s defence manage to clear.
1' KICK-OFF! After a minute's tribute to Sir Matt Busby, on the eve of the 25th anniversary of United's legendary manager's passing, referee Paul Tierney blows his whistle, and we are up and running.
The teams are out onto the pitch at Old Trafford, and kick-off is coming up shortly!
Solskjaer had looked set to stick with the same side that started in United’s win over Tottenham last time out, but he has been forced into a late change, with Shaw pulling out of the team due to illness, meaning Dalot starts. Brighton boss Chris Hughton, meanwhile, has made no alterations to the side that lost 1-0 to Liverpool last week.
BRIGHTON SUBS: Bruno, Beram Kayal, Florin Andone, Anthony Knockaert, Leon Balogun, Jason Steele, Viktor Gyokeres.
BRIGHTON (4-5-1): David Button; Martin Montoya, Shane Duffy, Lewis Dunk, Gaetan Bong; Solly March, Pascal Gross, Dale Stephens, Davy Propper, Jurgen Locadia; Glenn Murray.
MANCHESTER UNITED SUBS: Eric Bailly, Alexis Sanchez, Juan Mata, Romelu Lukaku, Andreas Pereira, Matteo Darmian, Sergio Romero.
MANCHESTER UNITED (4-2-3-1): David De Gea; Ashley Young, Phil Jones, Victor Lindelof, Diogo Dalot; Ander Herrera, Nemanja Matic; Jesse Lingard, Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial; Marcus Rashford.
United are overwhelming favourites, and would move into fifth with a victory, with Arsenal not playing until later. Brighton, meanwhile, sit 13th, although three points could see them move into 11th should Bournemouth fail to beat West Ham.
It would be a seventh win in all for United under Solskjaer, who also oversaw an FA Cup victory over Reading, but Brighton have triumphed in their last two Premier League meetings with the Red Devils.
It has been some turnaround at Old Trafford since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took charge, and United’s interim boss is looking to become the first United manager to win his first six league games.
