After a disappointing outing in their first match against Chennai City FC, where they were battered 4-1, Indian Arrows will look to bounce back against Shillong Lajong.
Floyd Pinto had a long lay-off and he must have worked on his defence as they looked fragile against the likes of Nestor Gordillo and Pedro Manzi.
Boris Singh and Sanjeev Stalin will have to be on top of their game as Lajong's full-backs Rakesh Pradhan and Novin Gurung will look to surge forward at every opportunity to deliver crosses inside the six-yard box. Whereas, Amarjit Singh and Jeakson Singh will have the onus of containing Lalrohlua and Samuel Lyngdoh so as to prevent them from exchanging quick passes in the centre of the park.
Arrows must be patient and maintain their defensive shape as Lajong have enough quality up front to make them pay for any errors in the defensive third. A lot will depend on the heroics of Prabhsukhan Gill under the sticks who has improved leaps and bounds since his lacklustre debut against East Bengal.
On the other hand, one can expect Lajong to go all-out against the All India Football Federation's (AIFF) developmental squad. They picked up three points against Aizawl where they were brilliant in the attacking third. Although they slumped to a 3-1 defeat against East Bengal in their next match, the scoreline hardly reflects their performance on the pitch.
They dominated the lion's share of possession in the match and outplayed East Bengal's midfield. If they had been more clinical in front of goal and had not commited silly individual mistakes, they could very well have snatched at least a point from the Kolkata giants.
Arrows must also keep in mind that they cannot concede any set-piece within close range of the penalty box as Lajong have arguably the best set-piece taker in I-League in the form of Samuel Lalmuanpuia. The skipper tested Rakshit Dagar time and again with his curling free-kicks and inch-perfect deliveries from corners and it will not be surprising if he finds his name on the scoresheet on Monday.
His combination play with Mahesh Singh in the attacking third is another reason for concern as the duo have the potential to trouble any defence in the I-League. Jhonny Acosta and Borja Perez were on their toes throughout the 90 minutes and it took some resolute defending from them to keep Mahesh and Samuel at bay.
Both sides have relatively similar average squad ages and both are bereft of any foreign signings. Can Kharsyntiew's' men bounce back with a win after bowing down against East Bengal? Let's wait and watch.
