Gokulam Kerala Possible XI:
Arjun Jayaraj will miss the match due to a fever. Mudde Musa was sent off in his last match will serve his suspension against Lajong.
Shillong Lajong Possible XI:
Gokulam Kerala have got off to an unimpressive start in their second I-League season with two draws and a defeat from their first three matches.
Bino George was reinstated as head coach though the club spent its pre-season under a Spanish gaffer who left the club just before the season. The team is yet to adapt to the style of play that George demands and their displays have been inconsistent.
The Malabarians have impressed in patches, however. A spirited second-half show against Mohun Bagan in their 1-1 draw, a good start against NEROCA FC and late fight against Chennai City are the positives so far. However, Bino George will be concerned about their woes in front of goal.
Antonio German has started all three games so far despite the manager claiming that the striker is not fully fit. Although the former Kerala Blasters forward has not been at his best and does not merit a start, it is hard to see Bino George dropping their most popular foreigner to the bench.
Arjun Jayaraj's performance in midfield is crucial to Gokulam's success on the field. The youngster is often seen moving into dangerous areas with the ball and providing the service to his forwards but the club's starlet will miss the fixture due to illness. Mudde Musa will also miss out after he was sent off late in the match against Chennai City and the absence of both these players will be a huge blow for the home side.
Shillong Lajong impressed in their 2-1 win against Aizawl but have since suffered back-to-back defeats. While East Bengal proved to be too difficult for a young Lajong side to break down, the narrow loss against Indian Arrows was easily avoidable. Head coach Alison Kharsyntiew will demand an improved performance in Kozhikode.
Lajong's wingers deserve credit for their constant marauding runs down the flanks. Mahesh Naorem, in particular, has caught the eye after the first few rounds. Threatening from the right flank, Mahesh will be up against an inexperienced Monotosh Chakladar if Bino George is once again forced to field the left-back due to the U-22 rule.
Musa's absence could pave way for another foreign player in the first team and it could well be the club's new signing Arthur Kouassi's debut. The Malabarians cannot afford to give the new player too much time to settle if they want are truly aiming for an AFC Cup spot this season.
