The Gaurs came back from a two-goal deficit to snatch a point from Bengaluru FC in their opening game...

FC Goa and Bengaluru FC shared the spoils in their opening match of the 2020-21 Indian Super League (ISL) on Sunday at the Fatorda Stadium.

Cleiton Silva (28’) and Juanan Gonzalez (57') gave Bengaluru the advantage but Igor Angulo’s brace (66’, 69’) secured a point for the Gaurs.

FC Goa’s style of football was what fans were used to as the Gaurs dominated possession in the first half. But they did not make an impact in the attacking third and failed to break Bengaluru’s organised setup at the back.

It was the Blues who broke the deadlock in the 28th minute as Brazilian attacker Cleiton Silva scored on his debut. James Donachie failed to clear Harmanjot Khabra's throw-in from the left and Silva found the back of the net with a header.

Bengaluru could have doubled their lead just minutes before half time as Cleiton Silva found Sunil Chhetri with a clever back-heel pass inside the box but the Blues skipper failed to connect.

The away side scored their second goal in the 57th minute. Deshorn Brown headed a cross into the box towards Erik Paartalu who in turn sent it towards Juanan. The Spanish defender found the back of the net to give Bengaluru a nice cushion of two goals.

Juan Ferrando made a double change close to the hour-mark as he brought in Brandon Fernandes and Alexander Romario. The changes soon proved to be effective in changing the fate of the game.

Goa pulled a goal back in the 66th minute when Brandon initiated a move with a through ball for Alberto Noguera who then found Igor Angulo inside the box. The Spanish forward pushed the ball into the net and got off the mark in the race for the Golden Boot.

The hosts scored a second goal within minutes and Brandon was the architect again. The Goan midfielder found Romario on the right side with a through ball. The former Chennai City man crossed for Angulo who chested the ball into the net from close-range.

FC Goa will now face Mumbai City on November 25 and Bengaluru will take on Hyderabad three days later.
