Commentary

That's all from us, at the end of a truly amazing game! See you next time.
That victory lifts Everton up to 12th in the table, and their eight-point cushion to the bottom three gives them some much-needed breathing space. Arsenal miss the chance to go fifth, and will remain seventh. That's now two losses in a row, and three in four games, for Mikel Arteta's side.
Demarai Gray was lively all game, and his stats, of three shots, with two on target, one key pass and four crosses, suggests that he was always going to be in the reckoning when the outcome of this game was decided. And well, what a way to do it!
Well, what a pulsating game of football that turned out to be! The frenzy at the end of the first-half set the tone for the second, and that half saw drama galore! Another Everton goal ruled out, before Richarlison finally got his deserved goal. That equaliser came off the back of a Gray strike hitting the woodwork, and right at the death the Everton winger did it again, smashing a thunderbolt off the post and into the back of the net! It's Everton's first win in eight, and relieves some pressure off the shoulders of Rafa Benitez!
90' + 8' FULL-TIME: EVERTON 2-1 ARSENAL.
90' + 7' WIDE!!! Nketiah ghosts past Coleman, and clips a great pass across the box into the path of Aubameyang. He looks to have all the time in the world, but side-foots his shot just wide of the left-hand post in what will surely be the last kick of the match!
90' + 6' SAVED!!! How have Everton not sealed it there? Richarlison gets the better of White and waits for options to arrive. They do in the form of Iwobi, who is put through by Richarlison, but he takes too long to shoot, allowing Ramsdale to close the gap and save his shot from close-range!!! Iwobi had the chance to put this game to bed and couldn't take it!!
90' + 4' Everton aren't finished in the slightest, and Richarlison comes forward into space once more. He's soon joined by Tavares, who brings down the forward for a free-kick, and the hosts are in no rush at all to take this one.
D. Gray
Yellow Card
Everton
90' + 2' Understandably, Gray's celebration was a rather wild one. Too wild for Mike Dean, who books the goalscorer for taking off his shirt.
André Gomes
Assist
Everton
90' + 2' The turn and run from Gomes to set up that goal was testament to how hard Everton have worked on the counter in this game. Goodison Park is louder than ever, and all the Toffees need to do now is hold on for four more minutes!
D. Gray
Goal
Everton
90' + 2' GOOOOOOAAAAALLLLLL!!!!! That might have won it for Everton, and WHAT A FINISH!!!! They counter through Gomes, who finds Gray out wide. He cuts inside, and again, and again, before unleashing an absolute bell-ringer of a shot from 20 yards that cracks the right post on its way in to make it 2-1!!! What a strike!!!!
90' + 1' BLOCKED!!! Nketiah and Odegaard link up again, and the Norwegian shoots from exactly the same position. This time though, it's Keane who gets across with desperation, blocking the ball with his knee and ending the chance!
90' We're into six minutes added on for injury time. Hold onto your hats, because this game is far from over!
89' Richarlison makes a bee-line towards goal once again, but is met by Gabriel, who stands his ground, overpowering the Everton forward with ease to win the ball for Arsenal.
A. Iwobi
A. Gordon
Everton
87' Gordon's out in one hell of a shift in this game, and is replaced by ex-Arsenal winger Alex Iwobi.
86' Saka gets past Doucoure with a sublime piece of skill and advances to the edge of the box. He shoots low, but it's deflected up into the air by Keane, straight into the waiting arms of Pickford.
P. Aubameyang
A. Lacazette
Arsenal
85' Lacazette comes off for Arsenal, and is replaced by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
84' OFF THE POST!!! Saka dinks a cross to the far post, and Nketiah's waiting. He heads the ball down, but it strikes the base of the post before hitting the Arsenal forward again and going behind!! What a chance to win it!
83' Everton fly forward as Richarlison looks to spring an attack again. He looks for Gordon who's racing ahead, but his throughball is just too far to the left of the winger and Ramsdale gathers!
82' BLOCKED!!! Nketiah advances down the left and cuts the ball back to Odegaard. He shoots from the centre of the box, but it's blocked by Godfrey! Odegaard screams for a penalty as the Everton defender falls on the ball, but Mike Dean isn't swayed!
81' Everton really have their tails up now. That goal feels like retribution for both their players and their fans, particularly after that second offside decision, and they'll throw everything they have at Arsenal for the last ten minutes.
Richarlison
Goal
Everton
80' GOOOOALLLLL!!!!! Third time lucky for Everton!!! No categorical reason to deny this one, as Gray curls a wicked finish towards goal. With Ramsdale beaten, it smashes the crossbar, but Richarlison is lurking to head in the rebound and finally Everton have a goal! 1-1, and don't go anywhere!
78' Gomes and Gray link up down the left, and the latter advances into the box to collect the return ball from Gray, but Partey is there to clear the danger and Arsenal survive once more.
77' Everton build pressure in and around Arsenal's box and Coleman finds the wide run of Gordon. He whips in a good-looking cross, but Ramsdale's out to catch it at the front post and the chance is gone.
76' Coleman bounds down the right to keep the ball in before it's nicked off him by Tavares. Gordon arrives to help out, but catches the Arsenal substitute late as he clears the danger and concedes the free-kick.
M. Ødegaard
Yellow Card
Arsenal
74' Arsenal receive a free-kick for a Gomes foul on Saka, but when Ødegaard feigns taking it to waste time, the referee brandishes a yellow card in his face.
72' Doucoure overpowers and pulls down Gabriel in attempting to win the ball, and he's furious when referee Mike Dean blows for the free-kick against him.
E. Nketiah
Gabriel Martinelli
Arsenal
71' Martinelli does come off, and on comes Nketiah for the last 20 minutes.
70' Martinelli is down for Arsenal, looking like he has cramp, and Nketiah is once again sent down the touchlines to warm up!
68' Odegaard's been simply exceptional for Arsenal thus far. As well as his goal, which came from his sole shot in this game, he's made three key passes, won every duel he's been faced with, and has won the ball back seven times, more than any other Arsenal player. World-class? Probably.
André Gomes
A. Townsend
Everton
66' Everton bring off Townsend, and in his place comes André Gomes.
Nuno Tavares
K. Tierney
Arsenal
65' Tierney comes off, having set up the only (non-disallowed) goal of the game so far, as Nuno Tavares takes his place at left-back.
65' From an Arsenal free-kick, the threat is dealt with, and Everton look to counter. It's stopped in its tracks though as Gray is up-ended by Lacazette, and the Arsenal captain was very lucky to avoid a booking there.
G. Xhaka
Yellow Card
Arsenal
63' Everton counter as Doucoure finds Gordon searing towards goal. He looks to cut inside to create a chance, but is dragged down by Xhaka, who is rightly booked as he concedes the free-kick.
61' OVER!!! Martinelli chases a ball forward from Odegaard, as does Pickford. The Everton keeper is in no-man's land as Martinelli gets round him, but his cross towards goal bounces off the top of the net!
59' It's been disallowed!!! Boos ring out around Goodison Park, and you can't really blame the Everton fans! Borderline is generous when it comes to how far offside Richarlison was there, and Everton still have it all to do here!
59' You're joking!!! We're off to VAR again, and they're checking for another offside! Richarlison and Gabriel's feet look to be level, with Richarlison's in front by the smallest of fractions. To the naked eye, it looks completely fine, but they're looking for the most borderline of offsides here!
58' BALL IN THE NET!!!! Everton look to have levelled!!! Doucoure puts Richarlison through one-on-one with Ramsdale, and the striker makes no mistake in firing the ball past the keeper into the near corner! They can't take this one off him, can they?
57' Richarlison gets to a loose ball ahead of White and sends Doucoure forward into space. He advances to the edge of the box, but his throughball to Gray is intercepted and cleared by the recovering White.
55' Tierney beats Coleman down the left and crosses from the byline. His efforts are met with no reward though, as the six-yard area is empty, and the good ball across goal is wasted.
53' The free-kick is swung in by Odegaard, and it's Gabriel who meets it at the far post. His downward header does little to trouble Pickford though, who saves easily.
52' From the free-kick, Coleman does brilliantly to dispossess Xhaka inside his own area, but his hard work is wasted as Richarlison fouls Partey on the edge of the box for an Arsenal free-kick.
B. Godfrey
Yellow Card
Everton
51' Saka is caught late by Godfrey again, and this time the Everton defender goes into the book for the first yellow card of this match.
49' Arsenal have scored 111 Premier League goals against Everton, more than they have vs any other side in the competition. Only Manchester United have netted more against a single opponent (112 vs Newcastle) in the competition.
47' OVER!!! From an Everton free-kick, the long diagonal ball finds Gordon on the right-hand byline. His volleyed cross is looping and high, and it drops on Ramsdale right at the last moment, forcing him to tip it over the bar for a corner!
46' We're back underway for half number two, and can Everton find a response to that late goal in the first?
It's almost time for the second half, and both teams are back out and ready to go.
Richarlison will be far from happy in the dressing rooms at half-time to say the least. He's been Everton's most creative player, with a blocked shot on target and two key passes. However, he's also lost the ball nine times and been caught offside twice - once of which, of course, saw his opening goal chalked off by VAR.
It wasn't much of a footballing spectacle in that first half, but what about those last few minutes! An absolute peach of a header from Richarlison looked to have put the home side 1-0 up, but it was rightfully disallowed for offside! Just seconds later, right at the end of stoppage time, up popped Odegaard in the box to make it 1-0 to Arsenal with a fantastic volley! Rafa Benitez will have to ensure Everton heads don't go down after that, as that was such a cruel double-blow for an Everton side who until then, had been the better team.
45' + 4' HALF-TIME: EVERTON 0-1 ARSENAL.
K. Tierney
Assist
Arsenal
45' + 2' That ball from Tierney was just brilliant, and Everton's players look shell-shocked to say the least! They thought they'd taken the lead, but just moments later it's Arsenal who do exactly that, and this game has sparked right into life!
M. Ødegaard
Goal
Arsenal
45' + 2' GOOOOOALLLLLL!!!! No doubt about that one!!! Arsenal fly up the pitch into Everton's half, and Tierney crosses into the box. It's set to land right on the penalty spot, where Odegaard is arriving to stroke home a beautiful first-time volley into the net to make it 1-0!!! What a last few minutes to end this half!
45' + 1' We're halfway into two minutes of added stoppage time at the end of this first half.
45' We're off to VAR!!! The replays show that Richarlison looks at least half a yard offside from the free-kick, and as a result the goal is chalked off! We're back at 0-0, and it's as you were!
44' BALL IN THE NET!!!! Everton look to have broken the deadlock!!! From that free-kick, the ball is whipped in and Richarlison rises highest to meet the ball. The Brazilian heads a powerful effort straight past Ramsdale and into the far corner!!! But hang on, what's going on here?
43' Gabriel's all over Richarlison and brings him down, and Everton have a wide free-kick from a dangerous crossing position.
42' Odegaard looks to be Arsenal's only creative outlet and it's showing - badly. He's forced wide to attempt crosses as no other player seems able to break Everton's press with a defence-splitting pass, and the Norwegian's ball into the box, aiming for Lacazette, is overhit and gathered easily by Pickford.
40' Arsenal win a corner through a deflected Tierney cross, and soon receive as second after Partey's header is also blocked behind.
38' Odegaard sends Tierney scorching up the sideline with a beautifully-timed backheel, but when Tierney reaches the byline, his pass inside to Lacazette is well cut-out by Keane, who drives up the pitch in the other direction.
37' Arsenal are without a win in their last three Premier League away games against Everton, losing twice. Their last winless league run this long at Goodison Park lasted six games between 1989 and 1994.
35' BLOCKED!!! Gray does well to keep in a lofted diagonal ball and crosses into the box. Richarlison skilfully brings the ball down and lays off to Gordon, whose powerful shot is deflected off White and away!
33' White comes forward with Tomiyasu advancing, and Saka then does expertly well to find his right-back's continuing run to the byline. The Arsenal man crosses, but Pickford's straight out of his goal to collect the low cross and send the Toffees away on the counter.
M. Holgate
Y. Mina
Everton
31' Mina, who's only just returned from a lengthy spell out, has picked up a slight injury, and Mason Holgate will come on for him as he can't carry on. Perhaps a precautionary change from Rafa Benitez, but that's perhaps a sign that Mina was brought back into the side too early?
29' OUCH!!! It's a double blow for Tomiyasu, who is taken down by Allan's challenge, only to be landed on studs-first by Godfrey! That looked nasty, and even after a VAR review, the Everton defender isn't booked!
27' DEFLECTED!!! Everton come forward from the left once more, and Townsend feeds Richarlison in the box. He looks to curl a shot around White, but the defender sticks out a leg and sends the ball behind for a corner!
25' WIDE!!! Gray intercepts a poor Gabriel clearance, and finds Richarlison. He feeds Doucoure on the turn, but his eventual shot has little power and dribbles past the calm Ramsdale and the post.
24' It's been quite a disjointed first 25 or-so minutes, and neither side have really been able to make any inroads into either opposition box. However, the midfield battle has been enthralling, and it's looking likely that this is the area in which this game could be won.
22' Saka is taken out late by Godfrey whilst trying to get round him, and the Arsenal winger is down receiving treatment. Eddie Nketiah's been given the signal to warm up, so this must be a serious one for the England man, who has only just returned from a knock picked up in the Gunners' win over Newcastle.
20' Arsenal have lost two of their last three games in the Premier League, conceding seven goals in the process. It’s a far cry from their previous eight, in which the Gunners had gone unbeaten, winning six and only conceding four times.
18' Arsenal come forward through Tierney, who feeds Odegaard in the centre. He looks to tee up Saka, but gets the ball back and lays it off to Partey. His effort is so bad it's almost laughable, nearly clearing the stands at Goodison Park as it goes behind for a goal kick.
16' Partey's crunching tackle has Allan on the floor, but not before the Everton midfielder has released Townsend. He stays down, but the referee plays on as Townsend looks to create some shooting space. He's crowded out, however, and the chance peters out.
15' Everton’s Gray has scored more Premier League goals than any other Toffees player this season (four), but has never netted more than four in a Premier League season in his career, also netting four in 2018-19 at Leicester City. Could tonight be the night he breaks that record?
14' Tierney and Gordon both challenge to get to a Coleman header forward, but it's the former who ends up shunted over the touchline and into the advertising boards. Ouch!
13' OVER!!! Godfrey and Richarlison link up to release Gray near the Arsenal box. He dribbles across the edge of the area shaping to shoot, but when he finally does pull the trigger it's fired high over Ramsdale's net!!
12' Partey tries a ball forward for his attackers to latch onto, but Lacazette's nowhere to be seen and Saka can't get to it either as Mina easily cuts it out for Everton.
10' Everton won both Premier League games against Arsenal last season – they’ve not won three in a row against the Gunners in league competition since April 1986.
8' A loose ball from a dispossessed Lacazette has both Tomiyasu and Godfrey racing towards it, and the two meet in a clean, classic 50-50 challenge that sees the Everton defender win the throw-in.
7' Applause rings around the stadium between the sixth and seventh minute, as the crowd rises in memory of murdered six-year-old Arthur Labinjo-Hughes.
5' Richarlison intercepts an Arsenal attack and breaks forward. He does superbly well to get past Partey, but his ball for Townsend is poor and Odegaard can intercept it.
3' Richarlison provides a great flick for Godfrey to chase from Keane's ball forwards. He's tearing into the box, but slips as he attempts to take on Tomiyasu and the Arsenal defender ushers the ball behind for a goal kick.
3' Everton haven’t won any of their last eight Premier League games, and they haven’t gone nine without a win since a 12-game run between August and October 1994.
1' And we're off! Arsenal's Odegaard gets us underway at Goodison!
The teams are heading out at Goodison Park, and it's nearly time for this game to begin!
With club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on the bench, his replacement striker Alexandre Lacazette leads the line for Arsenal, wearing the captain’s armband no less. England winger Bukayo Saka is back in too, having only appeared as a substitute in the Manchester United defeat due to a slight knock.
Yerry Mina, who has been out of action through injury since early October, slots straight back into the Everton XI on his return, and will provide some much-needed stability to the Toffees’ back-line. He pushes Ben Godfrey out to left-back, in place of the injured Lucas Digne.
ARSENAL SUBS: Arthur Okonkwo, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Rob Holding, Cedric Soares, Nicolas Pepe, Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Mohamed Elneny, Eddie Nketiah.
ARSENAL (4-2-3-1): Aaron Ramsdale; Takehiro Tomiyasu, Ben White, Gabriel Magalhaes, Kieran Tierney; Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka; Gabriel Martinelli, Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka; Alexandre Lacazette.
EVERTON SUBS: Asmir Begovic, Jonjoe Kenny, Mason Holgate, Fabian Delph, Alex Iwobi, Cenk Tosun, Andre Gomes, Jean-Philippe Gbamin, Jarrad Branthwaite.
EVERTON (4-4-1-1): Jordan Pickford; Seamus Coleman, Yerry Mina, Michael Keane, Ben Godfrey; Anthony Gordon, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Allan, Demarai Gray; Andros Townsend; Richarlison.
For Arsenal though, this game presents an opportunity for them to leapfrog both Manchester United, who beat them 3-2 in their most recent match, as well as North London rivals Tottenham, into fifth place, level on points with West Ham in fourth.
Everton need to find a win from somewhere; they haven’t won in eight, and the most recent of those games was a 4-1 drubbing at home by arch-rivals Liverpool. Rafa Benitez’s side lie 16th, sliding closer and closer to the relegation trapdoor.
