That brings an end to our coverage of the Europa League round-of-16 first leg clash between Eintracht Frankfurt and Inter at Commerzbank-Arena.Thank you very much for joining us. Goodbye!
Before next week’s second leg fixture, Frankfurt return to domestic action as they travel to Fortuna Dusseldorf in the Bundesliga whilst Inter host SPAL in their next Serie A game.
Following a highly competitive game, Frankfurt and Inter cannot be separated after the first leg of their round-of-16 clash. Brozovic had the best chance of the game from the spot, but the Croatian saw his penalty saved by Trapp after Fernandes fouled Martinez inside the box after 22 minutes. Frankfurt came on strong in the second half and could have taken the lead on 72 minutes but Hinteregger sent his header wide of the far post despite being unmarked in the box. Handanovic make a string of late saves to keep the hosts at bay and ensure that the scores are level going into the second leg.
90' + 2' Frankfurt are dominating the ball now as Inter find themselves boxed in their own half, but the Italian side continue to defend resolutely with only a few minutes left to play.
90' There will be three added minutes at the end of this game.
90' Gacinovic spots Willems to his left before playing the ball into his path. The substitute gets it out of his feet before firing over the bar from distance.
88' ANOTHER SAVE! Kostic slides the ball to his right for Gacinovic who sees his right-footed strike saved in the middle of the goal by Handanovic. The Inter goalkeeper is in fine form this evening.
87' CHANCE! Jovic receives the ball from Fernandes on the edge of the penalty area before turning and unleashing a wonderful driven effort towards the bottom left corner. Once again, however, Handanovic was down incredibly quickly to his right to make the save.
86' WIDE! Frankfurt break quickly and Paciencia cuts inside before just firing beyond the near post with a right-footed effort from the edge of the box. The hosts continue to press forward.
85' Jovic has been involved in seven goals in the Europa League this season. Can the Serbian striker find the breakthrough in the final five minutes?
83' Following the foul on Politano, Brozovic’s free-kick from 25 yards loops into the air after being deflected and Skriniar’s header from the centre of the box goes well over the bar.
G. Fernandes
Yellow Card
Eintracht Frankfurt
82' Fernandes picks up a late yellow card after cynically bringing down Politano in a dangerous position.
Gonçalo Paciência
S. Haller
Eintracht Frankfurt
80' The hosts also make their second change of the match as Paciencia comes on to replace Haller. 10 minutes left to play.
Cédric Soares
Borja Valero
80' Inter make their second change as Valero is replaced by Cedric. Inter seem content to take the draw at this stage.
79' Following Kostic’s cross being blocked by D’Ambrosio, the loose ball drops to Gacinovic in the centre of the box, but the attacking midfielder fires his volley straight at Jovic and it runs behind for a goal kick.
J. Willems
S. Rode
Eintracht Frankfurt
77' Frankfurt make their first change of the game as Rode is replaced by Willem. There are just over 10 minutes to go and it remains 0-0.
76' Inter are enjoying another good spell of possession as they look to momentarily take the sting out of the game following a bright spell for the hosts. De Vrij and Skriniar are content to keep the ball at the back and force Frankfurt to come onto them.
74' Inter’s last two meetings with German opposition in Europe have resulted in elimination. In 2010-11, the Italian side lost to Schalke in the quarter-finals of the Champions League before later suffering defeat at this stage of the Europa League in 2014-15 to Wolfsburg.
72' SMART SAVE! Handanovic is called into action once more as the goalkeeper denies Rode after the midfielder unleashed a fierce left-footed effort which was headed for the bottom right corner.
70' WHAT A CHANCE! It is that man Kostic again who sends an inch-perfect cross towards the back post which is a perfect height for Hinteregger to attack, but after arriving from deep, the defender misjudges the flight of the ball and sends his header well wide of the far post. He should have done better there.
68' Kostic, from deep, spots a good run from Jovic towards the far post from the centre of the box, but as the cross went in, Jovic just strayed offside. Free kick to Inter.
66' Asamoah looks to spread the play over to the right after spotting the run of Politano, but the Inter attacker made his run marginally too early and the flag is raised for offside.
65' Hasebe is down momentarily after tangling with Martinez, but there did not appear to be anything malicious in that and the defender is now back to his feet and able to continue.
63' Frankfurt win a free kick on the edge of their own penalty area after Hasebe was pulled back by Martinez.
61' CHANCE! Kostic takes on D’Ambrosio down the left and once again gets the better of the Inter man who is forced to bring the Serbian down on the edge of the box. Rode's delivery into the area is met by Da Costa, but he cannot steer his header either side of Handanovic who makes another simple save.
A. Candreva
Yellow Card
59' Moments after coming on, Candreva instantly gives away a free kick for handball and picks up a yellow card.
A. Candreva
I. Perišić
59' Perisic is brought off and Candreva comes on to replace the Croatian following that earlier injury.
57' There is going to be a brief stoppage in play as Perisic is down and in need of treatment. The Croatian is now back to his feet but does not appear to be moving comfortably. It seems that he will need to be replaced.
55' The German side are on the front foot now and Inter are struggling to contain them. Ndicka sends the ball into a dangerous area from the left and Jovic’s header from the centre of the box is saved in the middle of the goal by Handanovic.
M. Hasebe
Yellow Card
Eintracht Frankfurt
53' Hasebe receives a yellow card for dissent after complaining to the referee following the earlier penalty claim.
53' PENALTY? Frankfurt work the ball forward quickly and Gacinovic slots it through for Haller who goes down having been clattered into from behind by D’Ambrosio, but the referee waves away the protests. No penalty.
52' DISALLOWED GOAL! Following the corner from the left, the ball ricochets before dropping at the feet of Ndicka who pokes it through for Haller to convert from close range, but the striker is flagged for offside.
51' Once again Kostic is able to find space down the left-hand side and crosses the ball deep into the box for Da Costa, but the full-back drags his effort across the penalty area and Vecino turns it behind for a corner.
50' GOOD CHANCE! Frankfurt win a corner to the right off Skriniar and Kostic hangs the ball up towards the back post. Hinteregger gets the better of his man before directing his header straight at Handanovic who easily made the save.
48' Inter have started the second half well. The visitors are quick to press Frankfurt at every opportunity which is forcing the hosts to send the ball long at every opportunity.
46' We are back underway! Frankfurt get the second half kicked-off.
Frankfurt have yet to really get going in this one but have looked a threat down the left-hand side through Kostic. The wing-back’s direct running and pace has been a real problem for D’Ambrosio who has lost the Serbian winger on numerous occasions, and the hosts will look to target that side in the second half. Inter, meanwhile, will be pleased with their performance thus far. Politano has got away down the right wing several times in the opening half and will look to exploit the space left by the attack-minded Kostic as the game wears on.
Following an end-to-end opening half of football, there is nothing to separate Frankfurt and Inter at the break. Brozovic had the best opportunity of the half to opening the scoring, but his penalty was expertly saved by Trapp who got down low to his left to deny the Croatian midfielder after Martinez was brought down inside the area by Fernandes after 22 minutes. The visitors had another opportunity to take the lead five minutes before the break, but Vecino failed to keep his header on target from close range.
45' There will be one minute of added time.
43' Rode receives the ball deep inside the Frankfurt half before being clipped by Asamoah. The hosts are awarded a free-kick.
41' GLORIOUS CHANCE! Brozovic floats a glorious ball out towards the right for Politano who is able to steer it back across goal for Vecino, but the midfielder sends his glancing header wide of the far post. He should have done better there.
39' The Italian side have enjoyed 62 per cent of the possession thus far as they continue to frustrate Frankfurt.
37' Asamoah is rather cynically fouled from behind by Rode as the defender looked to break. Free kick to Inter just inside of their own half.
35' Martinez thought he should have been awarded a free-kick after he looked to have been brought down by Hasebe after the striker flicked the ball beyond him, but the referee waves away the protests and lets play continue.
Lautaro Martínez
Yellow Card
33' Martinez is the latest player to receive a yellow card after going in very late on Hasebe inside the Inter half. As a result of that booking, the Argentine will miss the return leg.
32' Hinteregger looks to swing an early cross into the box from deep, but the execution is all wrong and the audacious pass runs through for Handanovic to claim.
30' GOOD BLOCK! Kostic continues to cause Inter problems down the left flank as he is once again able to drive into the space before pulling the ball back for Jovic. The young striker looks to turn and unleash an effort on goal from the edge of the six-yard box, but Skriniar stood his ground and made a good block. The loose ball dropped to Haller who was offside.
28' The game has calmed down a little following a very frantic period of play. Inter are beginning to enjoy a good spell of possession as they look to put Frankfurt under pressure in front of their own fans.
26' Kostic tries his luck from the edge of the box, but his ambitious attempt sails well over the bar.
K. Asamoah
Yellow Card
24' Asamoah and Gacinovic collide as both sought to win a long ball down field, but the full-back goes into the book after being too aggressive in the tackle.
23' CLOSE! Following the penalty, Inter work the ball back into the box and Skriniar fires straight at Trapp, who is able to palm it away before Politano’s fierce strike fizzes beyond the far post by a matter of matter of inches.
K. Trapp
Penalty Save
Eintracht Frankfurt
22' TRAPP SAVES! Brozovic looked to send the ball into the bottom-right corner, but Trapp was down so quickly to his left to push the penalty away and keep the scores level.
M. Brozović
Penalty Miss
22' Brozovic looked extremely confidently during his stuttered run-up, and, despite it being a well-placed penalty, Trapp committed early and made a fine save.
21' PENALTY TO INTER! Martinez shows good pace to beat Fernandes to a loose ball inside the penalty area and the attacker is tripped from behind and the referee points to the spot. Brozovic will step up to take it…
19' CHANCE! It has been an end-to-end opening to this game as Politano skips away down the right flank before floating a cross in towards the six-yard box for Perisic to attack, but the Croatian’s header is steered right into the gloves of Trapp.
17' SAVE! The home side come forward once again as Jovic slots the ball into the path of Gacinovic. The attacking midfielder drives down the right side of the box before firing straight at Handanovic who had his angles covered.
15' CLOSE! Ndicka fires the ball into the path of Jovic who is given the space to turn on the edge of the box before drilling his shot from distance a few inches wide of the far post.
14' Kostic gets away down the left-hand side before playing the ball to his right for Haller, but the striker rushes his effort and pulls it wide of the far post from the left side of the box.
12' Valero is caught late by Fernandes on the halfway line and Inter win another free kick.
11' Asamoah is brought to the floor by Hinteregger down the left wing and Inter win another free kick. Brozovic delivers the set-piece in towards the centre of the box and De Vrij rises highest but his glancing header sees the ball run out towards the corner flag.
9' Haller gets played in down the right side of the box by Fernandes who then aims to scoop the ball back into the area for Jovic, but the cross cannons off Vecino and goes behind for a corner which Inter easily clear.
7' There is going to be a brief break in play as Hasebe is down for the home side following a collision with Martinez. The experienced midfielder should be okay to continue.
5' WIDE! Following Asamoah’s free-kick from the right, the ball drops to the feet of Martinez in the centre of the box who drives a well-hit effort wide to the right of Trapp’s goal.
F. Kostić
Yellow Card
Eintracht Frankfurt
4' Kostic receives an early yellow card for tripping Politano after the Inter man skipped beyond him down the right-side of the field.
3' SAVE! D’Ambrosio has an early sight of goal but sees his left-footed effort from the right side of the penalty box turned away down low to his left by Trapp. Good start from Inter.
2' Valero sends the ball down the left channel for Perisic before the Serbian slid the ball back across goal looking for Martinez. Fernandes was on hand to hook the ball away for the hosts inside the six-yard box.
2' Trapp launches the ball down field for Haller who looks to flick it on towards Jovic, but De Vrij is well positioned to win possession back for Inter.
1' Kick-off! Inter get the game underway.
