There goes the full-time whistle! Gladbch started well, opening the scoring through Plea after 10 minutes, but were pegged back by Bayern shortly before the break as Lewandowski volleyed a cross in from a Kimmich corner. The defending champions remained largely on top thereafter, but were unable to find a winner and have been punished for their slow start, being forced to share the spoils. 58' SAVE! Gnabry slides a terrific through-ball into the box where Davies picks it up and surges towards the right side of the box, but his low effort is blocked behind by Sommer's outstretched left leg!

57' Stindl earns the first yellow card of the game as he scythes Kimmich down from behind. That was a poor challenge.

55' SAVE! Gladbach have sprung back to life! Herrmann is the orchestrator once again, finding Neuhaus on the right side of the box, but the midfielder's effort towards the near post is saved by Neuer!

54' WIDE! Herrmann sends a free-kick into the box after Upamecano fouled Plea, but Lainer's header from the centre of the area is narrowly wide of the right-hand post!

52' CHANCE! Sane glides into the box down the right and works a yard of space to cross for Lewandowski, but the striker's downward header is straight down the middle and Sommer holds on comfortably!

50' Gladbach haven't replicated their fast start to the first half, with Bayern still in control of the game since the restart.

48' A left-wing cross into the Gladbach area is nodded away, but only as far as Sane, who tries to curl an effort in through the crowd, but it's too central and Sommer holds on.

46' We're back underway in Monchengladbach!

Despite the promise of their fast start, Gladbach have slowly ceded control of proceedings and Bayern ended the first half firmly on top. Hutter will need his side to press as bravely and intensely as they did at the start of the match if they are to regain the lead. Nagelsmann, meanwhile, can at least take solace in how his men responded to going behind and will expect them to maintain those standards as they search for a winner.

There goes the half-time whistle! Gladbach started strongly, carving a shaky Bayern apart at will and opening the scoring after 10 minutes through Plea. Bayern grew back into the contest, however, and Lewandowski's volley from a corner levelled the scores shortly before the end of the first half. It's 1-1 at the break!

41' Lewandowski collects the ball in the box and lays it back for Stanisic, but the defender's wild effort deflects behind for a corner.

39' The defending champions are really pressing their advantage now. They really want to level the scores before the break.

37' SAVE! Bayern put together a slick move on the edge of the box, with Sane flicking into the path of Lewandowski, who slides it through for Stanisic, but the young defender's low drive is saved by Sommer, who deals the rebound as well!

34' Bayern are starting to control the game a bit better and are piling pressure on the Gladbach goal now. The visitors are growing into the contest.

32' SAVE! Kimmich's inswinging corner forces a save from Sommer, who can only punch it into the air. Goretzka meets the dropping ball and his header deflects wide, but the Bayern players are furious as a goal-kick is given!

30' OVER! A loose, casual pass from Goretzka plays Stindl straight through on goal! The Gladbach skipper tries to be a little too cute, however, and his dinked effort sails over the crossbar!

28' WIDE! Sane tries his luck from distance after being fed by Davies, but the winger's left-footed effort is narrowly wide of the top-left corner!

26' SAVE! Davies sends a cross in from the left that Lewandowski meets in the box, but his cushioned, low volley towards the bottom-right corner is saved by Sommer, who gets down to meet it!

23' WIDE! The free-kick is curled into the middle and bounces off Davies, falling straight to the feet of Elvedi, but the defender can only strike wide from 12 yards!

22' Herrmann cuts inside towards the edge of the box and Davies makes a clumsy challenge, felling the Gladbach winger and conceding a free-kick in a dangerous position.

20' Gladbach's high press continues to disrupt Bayern's attempts to build attacks, with the visitors playing a number of uncharacteristic stray passes into touch.

18' Gladbach are pressing aggressively and in numbers, making it very difficult for Bayern to build from the back or through midfield. It remains to be seen if the hosts can sustain this approach but, for now, it's working well.

16' Bayern have finally settled after a very shaky opening 10 minutes, which they were punished for. They still don't look sharp, but Gladbach are no longer carving them apart with ease and the tempo of the game is more controlled now.

10' GOAL!!! PLEA PUTS GLADBACH AHEAD AGAINST THE DEFENDING CHAMPIONS!!! The hosts converge on the ball in midfield and win it before swiftly working it forward to Stindl. The Gladbach skipper slides to prod the ball beyond Upamecano and into the feet of the unmarked Plea, who fires a left-footed shot beyond Neuer and in! It's 1-0 to Gladbach!

7' WIDE! Lewandowski finds Gnabry in behind in the box and the German winger takes the ball down before curling towards the bottom-right corner, but he somehow fires wide! The flag then goes up, however, so it wouldn't have counted anyway.

5' CHANCE! What a chance for Gladbach! A dazzling run and superb pass from Neuhaus allows Herrmann to surge into the box before squaring to his left for Stindl, but Kimmich gets back just in time to make a vital sliding challenge that allows Neuer to clear his lines!

3' CLOSE! A loose pass gifts Gladbach the ball in the Bayern third and Plea holds it up well under pressure before sending it forward to Herrmann on the edge of the box, but the winger's first-time snap-shot flies wide of Neuer's right-hand post!

1' The referee's whistle gets the 2021-22 Bundesliga season underway in Monchengladbach!

Bayern have lost 26 of their 106 Bundesliga games against Gladbach – no club has beaten them more often in the German top-flight (also 26 against Werder Bremen). Furthermore, no club has scored as many goals against Bayern as Gladbach have (134). Furthermore, Nagelsmann has won only one of his six Bundesliga games against Hutter (D2 L3). Of all the coaches Nagelsmann has faced at least five times in the Bundesliga, he has the lowest points-per-game average against Hutter (0.83).

For the first time since 2001, the reigning champion must start a Bundesliga season away from home. Meanwhile, Julian Nagelsmann's first competitive game as Bayern manager features five changes from their final pre-season friendly - a 3-0 defeat to Napoli. Upamecano makes his official Bayern debut, while 21-year-old Stanisic makes just his second senior start at right-back.

New Gladbach boss Adi Hutter makes just one change from the side that beat FC Kaiserslautern 1-0 in the DFB-Pokal on Monday. Plea starts up front, with Benes dropping to the bench and Stindl shifting to a more supporting role behind the Frenchman.
