Bengaluru FC suffered their second successive defeat in the Indian Super League (ISL) as they went down 0-1 to Jamshedpur FC at the Kanteerava Stadium, Bangalore on Thursday evening. Trindade Goncalves successfully converted the penalty after Rahul Bheke brought down substitute Sameehg Doutie inside the box.
Albert Roca made three changes in the starting eleven with Erik Paartalu, Udanta Singh and Subhashish Bose replacing Toni Dovale, Lenny Rodrigues and Nishu Kumar. Meanwhile, Siddharth Singh made way for Jerry Mawihmingthanga and Kervens Belfort replaced Izu Azuka upfront for the visitors.
After a disappointing defeat against Chennaiyin FC in their last match, Bengaluru were expected go for all three points in this crucial home fixture. They looked to attack from the very start as the opposition was happy to sit back and hit on the counter.
The first chance of the game fell for the home side in the 23rd minute when Edu Garcia chipped the ball towards Sunil Chhetri near the far post. The 33-year-old striker, however, only ended up side-netting. Miku too got involved and had an effort which was kept out by Subrata Paul.
Jamshedpur’s midfield lynchpin Mehtab Hossain had to leave the field in the 38th minute after he suffered a back injury. He was replaced by Farukh Choudhary who occupied the attacking midfielder's role with Trindade being asked to drop deep to fill in for Mehtab.
It was the away side which created the better goal scoring opportunities thereafter with Kervens Belfort going close in the 53rd minute. Bikash Jairu curled a cross inside the penalty box which evaded every Bengaluru defender and fell for Belfort. The striker was pressurised by Khabra and hence, his final effort was saved by Gurpreet in goal.
Jamshedpur had another opportunity around the hour mark when Jerry’s shot from the right went inches wide of the far corner. This was after he was sent through by a Belfort pass.
Bengaluru too had a couple of chances when Miku fed Udanta with a quality ball inside the box but the winger's attempt was saved by Paul diving to his left.
In the 77th minute, Sunil Chhetri got a chance to break the deadlock when he got to the end of a through-pass by Khabra. However, Paul came off his line and made himself big as Chhetri's shot came off the goalkeeper's shoulder.
Bengaluru had another chance to break the deadlock as Miku's cross from the left found Dimas whose right-footed volley from inside the box sailed over.
Late in the game, Sameehg Doutie was pulled down from behind by Bheke as the referee had no hesitation to point to the spot. From the penalty, Trindade sent the goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu the wrong way to put his side into the lead.
With this result, Jamshedpur FC have nine points from six matches while Bengaluru FC have 12 from seven matches.
