Commentary

That's all for today, goodbye!
Barcelona are now unbeaten in their last seven games in all competitions, and this win takes them three points clear of Real Madrid at the top of the table. Next up for them is the Supercopa de Espana semi-final against Real Betis. Atletico's four-match winning run is over and it means they stay in fifth. They face Almeria next time out.
Barcelona hold on to beat Atletico Madrid 1-0. The visitors' bright start saw them take the lead through Dembele in the 22nd minute, but from then on, Atletico dominated. Griezmann forced a good save out of Ter Stegen before the break and they picked up where they left off in the second half. Torres came off the bench and saw a goal disallowed for offside against the run of play and Griezmann saw a volley blocked on the line deep in stoppage time. Both teams finished with 10 men, after an off-the-ball wrestling match took place between Savic and Torres which resulted in straight red cards.
90' + 7' FULL-TIME: ATLETICO MADRID 0-1 BARCELONA.
90' + 6' Atletico have one last chance to grab an equaliser as they win a free-kick right on the edge of the D. Griezmann steps up, but he curls his shot straight into Pedri in the wall, and they win a corner.
90' + 4' OFF THE LINE! The home fans thought they'd snatched a late point here as Griezmann volleys Correa's pullback towards goal. Araujo is marking Morata and doesn't know too much about it as it hits his foot and bounces away.
Ferran Torres
Red Card
Barcelona
90' + 2' TORRES IS ALSO OFF! He started it all by rugby tackling Savic and preventing him from standing up. He was dragging the defender by the hair at one point and giving as much as he got. Barca down to 10 too!
S. Savić
Red Card
Atlético Madrid
90' + 2' SAVIC IS OFF! It was an off-the-ball incident that escalated very quickly! Savic dispossessed Torres but then started grappling with the forward on the floor. He was holding him down, grabbing him around the neck and then he pushes Torres away before the referee shows him a straight red. Atletico are down to 10!
90' + 1' We're into six minutes of stoppage time here as Atletico continue to push for an equaliser. There are big shouts for a handball again by the home fans and players, but the referee waves play on.
89' CHANCE! Time is running out for Atletico to get an equaliser, but the space opens up for Lemar just outside the box. He fires a low shot towards the far post, but it's just wide.
Raphinha
Yellow Card
Barcelona
87' Raphinha is down holding the back of his head but tells the referee he doesn't need treatment. When he's told to stop time-wasting, he walks away from the official and picks up a silly booking for dissent.
N. Molina
Yellow Card
Atlético Madrid
85' Molina is late getting across to Kessie, and he swipes the substitute's legs out from under him. His name goes into the referee's book.
84' Atletico are still throwing everything they have at Barcelona as Reguilon plays it over the top for Correa. He doesn't even make an attempt to get back onside, and the flag goes up.
A. Christensen
Yellow Card
Barcelona
82' Christensen's attempts to win the ball off Kondogbia end in vain as he clips the midfielder from behind to earn a booking.
Reguilón
Reinildo
Atlético Madrid
81' Simeone's final roll of the dice is to bring Reguilon on for Reinildo.
Marcos Alonso
Alejandro Balde
Barcelona
81' And Alonso is replacing Balde.
Sergi Roberto
Sergio Busquets
Barcelona
81' The final changes for Barcelona see Roberto coming on in place of Busquets.
Á. Correa
Yellow Card
Atlético Madrid
79' Correa's first touch gets away from him and he thinks he's kept it in play, but the linesman says otherwise. He slices the ball away in frustration, only to be booked for dissent.
77' Atletico move the ball quickly upfield again, and Lemar floats a lovely switch of play out to Griezmann on the left. He clips a cross in, but it's too close to Ter Stegen, who plucks it out of the air.
75' Lemar takes a corner short, playing a one-two with Correa as he tries to get into a better crossing position. He races onto the return pass, but he's offside and the attack fizzles out.
Á. Correa
João Félix
Atlético Madrid
73' And Joao Felix is also making way, with Correa on for him.
T. Lemar
Koke
Atlético Madrid
73' And it's another double swap for Atletico. Koke's game is over as Lemar replaces him.
Raphinha
Gavi
Barcelona
73' Both sides are making changes here, starting with Barcelona. Gavi goes off, with Raphinha on in his place.
72' OFFSIDE! Gavi puts a deep corner into the box and Christensen peels away at the far post to nod it back across goal. Torres is unmarked as he brings it down on his chest and volleys it past Oblak, but he was standing offside and it won't count!
70' Barcelona are back to dominating possession, without creating much with it. Busquets goes long to Torres this time and he spreads it wide to Kessie, who sees a cross blocked.
68' It's a loose pass from Llorente that falls straight to Dembele's feet and he flicks it onto Pedri, who breaks on the counter. His big switch picks out Kessie, who cushions it into Dembele, but he drills another shot wide.
66' SAVE! Kondogbia is straight into the action as he nicks the ball off Kessie and slides it through for Llorente. His low shot bobbles through to Ter Stegen, who fumbles it, but recovers quickly to stop Morata from reaching the rebound.
Álvaro Morata
Y. Carrasco
Atlético Madrid
65' And Morata is also coming on in place of Carrasco.
G. Kondogbia
Pablo Barrios
Atlético Madrid
64' Atletico are making a double change of their own now. Barrios is taken off and replaced by Kondogbia.
62' BLOCK! Kounde goes for a more direct route this time, lifting a long ball over the top towards Dembele. Reinildo misses it but then scurries back to deflect the Frenchman's shot just wide of the near post.
60' Barcelona are enjoying a good spell of possession, and they're keeping Atletico penned back in their own half. The visitors aren't in a hurry to push upfield though.
F. Kessie
F. de Jong
Barcelona
58' And De Jong is also making way, with Kessie on for him.
Ferran Torres
Ansu Fati
Barcelona
57' Barcelona are making a double change as they try to regain some control in this game. Fati is the first to go off, with Torres replacing him.
R. Araujo
Yellow Card
Barcelona
56' Araujo slides in and although he gets the ball first, he takes out Koke with the follow-through. He's shown the first yellow card of the game.
54' CHANCE! Molina isn't spotted by Barcelona and has acres of space down the right to pick out a low, fizzed cross into the middle. Griezmann holds off Christensen to hit it first time, but sends it high over the bar.
52' Dembele is one of just two players to have scored 5+ goals and provided 5+ assist in LaLiga this season, after Antoine Griezmann (also five and five).
50' Llorente turns past Kounde and holds him off long enough to fizz a low cross into the box. He's looking for Koke at the near post, but Christensen reads it well and sticks out a leg to block it.
48' Atletico have made a bright start to the second half and they're keeping Barcelona penned back in their own half. Griezmann finds space to clip in a cross from the left, but he can't pick out a team-mate.
46' Atletico get us back underway for the second half!
Neither manager looked particularly happy going down the tunnel. Xavi's team fizzled out after a bright start, getting sloppy on the ball and struggling to create chances which he will want to improve on. Simeone's frustration was mainly aimed at the referee as he feels like all of the decisions are going against him, but he'll be pleased with how his side responded to going behind.
Dembele's goal gives Barcelona a 1-0 lead over Atletico Madrid at half-time. The visitors started the game brightly and saw some half-chances blocked before they broke the deadlock. Pedri's weaving run opened up the midfield before Pedri set Dembele up for the opener. Atletico came to life after that though, and Gimenez went close with a thumping header before Griezmann forced a good save out of Ter Stegen just before the break.
45' + 2' HALF-TIME: ATLETICO MADRID 0-1 BARCELONA.
45' + 1' There are half-hearted shouts for a handball after Llorente's flick hits Kounde behind him. It hits the defender in the face though, and the referee quickly waves the claims away.
44' Barcelona can't clear their lines after a corner, and Atletico aren't letting up the pressure. It bounces to Molina on the edge of the box and his blocked shot rebounds to Joao Felix, who is then denied by Christensen.
42' GOOD SAVE! Carrasco cuts inside from the right, and he's looking for Joao Felix, who helps it onto Griezmann. It's just behind him, but he quickly adjusts to fire it towards the near corner, and Ter Stegen has to tip it over.
41' It's a brilliant throughball from Joao Felix down the right for Llorente, and he just about gets in front of Balde before he's brought down. Again, the referee says no foul and Atletico are furious about it.
39' The visitors are trying to calm things down here and are enjoying a good spell on the ball. It's all in front of Atletico, but they're patiently trying to work it forward.
37' Barcelona are starting to get sloppy in possession, and Llorente wins it back on the halfway line before bursting down the right. Instead of looking for a team-mate, he goes it alone and his effort flashes wide.
35' Araujo goes through the back of Joao Felix, taking the man down as he wins the ball. Barcelona attempt to break, but Koke stops Busquets before he gets too far.
33' SO CLOSE! It's better from Atletico now as their corner is recycled through Llorente, who whips a dangerous cross back into the box. Gimenez rises highest and thumps a header at the near post, but it flies just wide.
32' CHANCE! Another round of jeers for the referee as Koke goes down, but Atletico quickly win it back and are able to mount another attack. Griezmann tees up Llorente, whose deflected shot hits the side netting.
30' The home fans and players are starting to feel a bit aggrieved with the referee as they think all of the decisions are going Barcelona's way. Gavi is down having won a free-kick for being clipped, but Atletico are making their feelings clear.
28' Carrasco looks to thread it through the lines this time, but Barrios is coming back from an offside position so he has to leave it. Kounde was in no man's land and although they got away with it, Xavi is making his frustration clear on the sideline.
26' Griezmann pushes his way past three Barcelona players in an attempt to get his team upfield, but he has no runners ahead of him. He's forced to play it back and another chance goes begging.
24' CHANCE! Barcelona have the wind in their sails now and Gavi looks to set up Pedri this time. He times his run perfectly between Atletico's defenders but then hesitates, which allows Molina to get back and block the shot.
Gavi
Assist
Barcelona
22' Atletico were claiming that Gavi fouled Reinildo as he turned the defender to set up the goal. There was a nudge, but not much in it, and the referee was happy to let it go.
O. Dembélé
Goal
Barcelona
22' DEMBELE SCORES! It's been coming from Barcelona! It all starts with a wonderful weaving run by Pedri through midfield and he knocks it to Gavi on the edge of the box. He rolls Reinildo to tee up Dembele and he runs onto it, striking it first time and picking out the far bottom corner. Atletico are claiming there was a foul, but it's going to stand. 1-0 Barca!
20' Barcelona look to their right again and Dembele knocks it through Reinildo's legs before finding his path blocked. The referee says no foul and Atletico get a breather as it's hooked away.
18' It's a lovely switch of play from Joao Felix out to Llorente on the right and he drives forward down the wing. He drills a low cross in, which is never reaching Carrasco, but they do win a corner off Araujo.
16' Gavi has space ahead of him on the right and Busquets tries to slide it through for him. The youngster slips at the wrong moment though and it allows Reinildo to cut out another Barca attack.
14' Atletico just can't get out of their own half at the moment as Barcelona push forward again. The visitors' passing is getting sloppy though, and they can't keep hold of it long enough to get into the box.
12' Barcelona have lost two of their last four games against Atletico in LaLiga (W1 D1), having gone unbeaten in their previous 20 matches against the Rojiblancos in the competition beforehand (W14 D6).
10' Dembele has the ball nicked off his toe at the far post, but Barcelona quickly force another turnover high up the pitch. It's slid into Fati just inside the box, but Gimenez slides in with the block this time.
8' Barcelona are back on the attack now, but they're struggling to pass their way into Atletico's box. When space opens up through the middle, Christensen decides to try his luck from a very long way out, but it's a comfortable stop for Oblak.
6' It's fizzed forward for Llorente and he keeps it in play, but Griezmann can only knock it back to Koke. He calms things down before laying it off to Barrios, but his shot is straight down the middle at Ter Stegen.
4' BLOCK! Barca win it back quickly again and Pedri manages to cushion it into Fati's path in the box before he's closed down. The forward hits the shot first time, but Savic slides in to make a vital block.
2' Barcelona have started on the front foot here. Gavi's throughball takes a deflection, but it falls kindly at De Jong's feet instead and he quickly switches it out to Dembele. A loose touch forces him wide before he clips Reinildo in an attempt to keep it.
1' Fati gets the game underway for Barcelona!
The teams are coming out onto the pitch now, with kick-off just moments away!
This is the fifth time in the history of LaLiga that Barcelona face Atletico in the first game of the calendar year. They've not lost any of the previous four, earning three victories (1930, 1951 and 1989).

Diego Simeone makes four changes to the side that beat Oviedo in the Copa del Rey last time out. Savic is slotted straight in after returning from a muscle injury, with Reinildo, Barrios and Joao Felix also coming in. Witsel, Lemar and Morata drop to the bench, while Mario Hermoso misses out due to an injury picked up in that game.

Barcelona are looking to extend their lead at the top of the league to three points with a win here today, after Real Madrid's loss to Villarreal yesterday. They're unbeaten in their last six outings in all competitions (W5 D1), dropping points in their most recent league outing. They did win last time out though, narrowly edging third-tier Intercity in the Copa del Rey, but they needed extra time to do it. Atletico will be aiming to move back into four with a victory, and they've won each of their last four matches in all competitions, turning things around after a five-match winless run before that (D2 L3). They also progressed in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday with a 2-0 win over Oviedo.
