Commentary

Thank you for following our coverage of tonight’s Premier League match-up between Arsenal and Liverpool. Until next time, stay safe!
Next up for both sides are huge European clashes in mid-week. Liverpool travel to Spain to face Real Madrid on Tuesday night in the quarter-finals of the Champions League whilst Arsenal host Slavia Prague in the quarter-finals of the Europa League on Thursday.
The visitors run out comfortable winners as a brace from Jota and a further strike from Salah mean the Reds travel back north with all three points. Arsenal offered very little throughout and struggled to find any sort of rhythm against a much-improved Liverpool side.
90' + 5' FULL-TIME: ARSENAL 0-3 LIVERPOOL.
90' + 4' CLOSE! Mane has another big chance right at the death but Leno does well to stick out a leg and deny the Liverpool man from just inside the Arsenal penalty area.
90' + 3' BIG CHANCE! Alexander-Arnold whips in another delightful cross from the right flank and Mane heads wide from eight yards out. That should have been four for the visitors.
Gabriel Magalhães
Yellow Card
90' + 1' Gabriel is booked for dragging back Jota who was breaking towards the Arsenal penalty area.
90' There'll be a minimum of four minutes of additional time played here in north London.
87' There’s just five minutes left in this Premier League match and Klopp will be hoping his side can hang on to their clean sheet. It’s looking extremely likely given the fact that Arsenal have hardly left their own half this evening.
R. Williams
O. Kabak
84' A switch at the back for Liverpool as Kabak departs. Williams will take his place for the final five or so minutes.
S. Mané
Assist
82' Mane picks up a very fortunate assist on Jota's second goal of the match.
Diogo Jota
Goal
82' GOOOOOAAAALLLLLL!!! 3-0. JOTA AGAIN!!!! It’s far, far too easy for the visitors. Salah finds Mane in the box who miscontrols the ball, but Jota arrives at the perfect time to smash home from 10 yards out. Arsenal have been nowhere near Klopp’s men today.
79' Mohamed Salah has been directly involved in nine goals in nine Premier League appearances against Arsenal, scoring seven and assisting two more.
G. Wijnaldum
Roberto Firmino
78' Wijnaldum comes on to replace Firmino for the closing stages of this match.
Martinelli
P. Aubameyang
77' Martinelli comes on to replace Aubameyang who has really struggled to get into this match.
75' BIG CHANCE! Salah is found with a perfect through ball from Firmino but Leno does well to charge out and save this time with the Liverpool forward in on goal. His effort from 15 yards out was straight at the Arsenal goalkeeper who stood tall.
Diogo Jota
Yellow Card
73' Jota is booked for taking out Partey on the halfway line.
71' This has been a professional performance from Liverpool, and it looks like Arsenal will have no answer in this Premier League clash. There’s time yet for the Gunners to recover but it’s looking increasingly unlikely given their very poor performance so far.
Mohamed Salah
Goal
68' GOOOAALLLLL!! 2-0. SALAH!!!! Liverpool very quickly double their lead. Fabinho chips a ball over the Arsenal defence and Salah is suddenly in on goal. Gabriel tries to clear under pressure, gets it wrong and the Egyptian forward cuts in from the right and slips the ball under Leno from six yards out.
67' Arsenal need to find a response here and quickly. Liverpool come forward again but Partey does well to intercept the danger.
T. Alexander-Arnold
Assist
64' It's a phenomenal ball into the box from Alexander-Arnold who celebrates the goal with some emphasis.
Diogo Jota
Goal
64' GOOOOOAAAALLLLLL!!! 1-0 TO LIVERPOOL. JOTA!!!! You can’t say that it hasn’t been coming. Alexander-Arnold whips in one of his trademark crosses from the right wing and Jota leaps highest to head home from six yards out. Leno gets a hand to the effort, but the German shot-stopper can’t keep it out. Talk about impact from the Portuguese forward.
Diogo Jota
A. Robertson
61' Jurgen Klopp rolls the dice as Jota comes on to replace Robertson. The defender played a lot of football for Scotland over the international break and clearly the Liverpool boss feels his full-back is looking a bit leggy. Milner will move to left-back.
Mohamed Elneny
Dani Ceballos
58' Ceballos makes way for Elneny in midfield for the home side. That should give them a bit more solidity in the centre of the park.
56' Arsenal move the ball from side to side in midfield but again the attack breaks down as Chambers sees a cross blocked by Robertson. Arsenal have been better in the second half compared to the first but the hosts are still lacking any sort of meaningful presence upfront.
54' Ceballos catches Tiago late in midfield and the referee will have a word with the Arsenal midfielder for that.
51' Salah strikes at goal but Gabriel does well to block the Liverpool forwards effort from 15 yards out. The hosts are beginning to collectively fall deeper again on the pitch.
49' It’s already been a much more positive start to this half from Arsenal. The hosts look keen to get on the ball more in Liverpool’s half.
47' Arsenal have had just one shot in the first half of a Premier League home game for the first time since November 2015 vs Spurs. That probably sums up their first 45 minutes best. Gunners fans will be hoping for much better in this second half.
46' Both sets of players are back on the field and the second half begins!
If his side are to get anything from this match, boss Mikel Arteta will need to make some attacking changes in the second half. Arsenal have been lacklustre at best, and it feels like only a matter of time until Liverpool find a breakthrough.
The two sides head into the break goalless in a match that has seen little goalmouth action so far. Liverpool have dominated the possession throughout, and Milner should have done better with a strike at Leno’s goal halfway through the first half, but the home side have offered little in response.
45' + 3' HALF-TIME: ARSENAL 0-0 LIVERPOOL.
Cédric Soares
K. Tierney
45' + 1' Unfortunately, Tierney is unable to continue after that knock, and Cedric replaces the Scottish full-back.
45' Tierney is currently down and receiving treatment after a clash of legs with Milner. This could be a big blow for the hosts.
43' It’s just not happening upfront for Arsenal. Odegaard finds Aubameyang with a fantastic reverse pass on the edge of the visitor's box but the forward can’t bring the ball under his spell at the crucial time.
41' Leno does well to punch clear a Liverpool free kick. As a result, Arsenal threaten to break but Liverpool do well to collectively recover to snuff out the danger.
38' Thiago has completed 40 passes so far in this Premier League clash, double that of any Arsenal player.
36' CLOSE! Alexander-Arnold advances down the right wing and picks out Milner with a lovely cut-back on the edge of the box. The central midfielder strikes first time under little pressure, but his effort from 20 yards goes just wide of the far post. He should have done much better there in truth.
34' Aubameyang breaks into the Liverpool box, checks his run to beat Alexander-Arnold and chips a cross to the far post. Pepe is there to meet it, but his header is straight at Alisson. That’s better from the hosts.
32' With 70% of the possession in this Premier League match, Liverpool have clearly dominated so far but until they find that vital breakthrough it’ll feel like many of their other matches this season where ultimately, they should have won but haven’t.
30' CLOSE! Firmino finds himself in plenty of space outside the Arsenal box but his strike from distance misses wide of the far post.
28' Milner flicks a ball into the Arsenal box and Mane meets the delivery with his head. The Liverpool forward turns it goalward but Leno deals with the effort easily. Alexander-Arnold then sees his volleyed effort from distance blocked on the edge of the host’s penalty area.
25' Speaking of Lacazette, the French forward has only touched the ball three times in the opening 25 minutes of play as Liverpool continue to stifle the host's attack.
24' Phillips catches Lacazatte with a stray arm as both players battle for the ball. Arsenal are awarded the free kick but there’s no further punishment for the Liverpool defender.
21' Liverpool force two corners in quick succession but neither amount to anything of note.
19' The visitors are knocking the ball around nicely in midfield but the link up play between Mane, Salah and Firmino in attack has been relatively poor so far. Arsenal are happy to sit back with men behind the ball and look for the counter-attack.
17' No fixture in Premier League history has seen more goals scored than Arsenal vs Liverpool (166). 94 of those goals have been scored by Liverpool, the most goals the Gunners have shipped against a single opponent in the competition.
15' CLOSE! Arsenal clear the danger from a Robertson cross but the ball falls to Fabinho. The Brazilian takes a touch before striking from 30 yards out but his right-footed effort zips just past the far post.
12' Milner strikes at goal from just outside the box but his right-footed effort on the half volley goes well wide of Leno's far post.
10' No attempts from either side in the first ten minutes to speak about. It’s been a very tentative start with both teams needing a big result in this Premier League clash. Liverpool are perhaps just edging it at the moment.
7' Arsenal have lost just one of their last eight home Premier League games (W4 D3), though they haven’t won back-to-back home league games since their first two this season against West Ham and Sheffield United.
5' Gabriel tries to flick a ball out wide to Tierney in the opposition half but he overhits his pass and Liverpool regroup. At the other end, Mane looks to feed Firmino through on goal but his attempted pass is poor and the Gunners escape.
3' It's been an even start here in north London with both sides guilty of giving away possession too easily so far. The midfield battle will certainly be intriguing in this Premier League clash given the players on show.
1' Referee Stuart Attwell blows his whistle and we’re underway here at the Emirates Stadium!
The players are emerging from the tunnel and kick-off is just moments away.
Liverpool have won just two of their last 20 Premier League away games against Arsenal (D9 L9), winning 2-0 in August 2011 and 4-3 in August 2016.
The visitors are still suffering with a lengthy injury list, especially in defence so as a result Phillips and Kabak continue as the two central defenders with Alexander-Arnold and Robertson taking up their usual spots as the full-backs. Fabinho, Milner and Thiago form a strong presence in the centre of the park whilst Salah and Mane start either side of Firmino upfront for the Reds.
The hosts are without young stars Emile Smith-Rowe and Bukayo Saka who both fail late fitness tests but elsewhere on the pitch, the Gunners are relatively injury-free. Bellerin, Holding, Gabriel and Tierney form the backline as Partey and Ceballos anchor the midfield. Odegaard continues as the attacking midfielder after impressing of late whilst Aubameyang and Pepe start on either wing. Lacazette leads the line for Mikel Arteta’s side.
LIVERPOOL SUBS: Adrian, Konstantinos Tsimikas, Rhys Williams, Curtis Jones, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Xherdan Shaqiri, Georginio Wijnaldum, Diogo Jota.
LIVERPOOL (4-3-3): Alisson; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Nathaniel Phillips, Ozan Kabak, Andrew Robertson; Fabinho, Thiago, James Milner; Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane.
ARSENAL SUBS: Mat Ryan, Cedric Soares, Hector Bellerin, Pablo Mari, Mohamed Elneny, Willian, Gabriel Martinelli, Reiss Nelson, Eddie Nketiah.
ARSENAL (4-2-3-1): Bernd Leno; Calum Chambers, Rob Holding, Gabriel, Kieran Tierney; Dani Ceballos, Thomas Partey; Nicolas Pepe, Martin Odegaard, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang; Alexandre Lacazette.
Premier League football returns after the international break with a huge clash between two of England’s most historic and successful sides. Arsenal will be looking to take a sizeable scalp on home soil as a victory in this clash would take the north London side just a point behind the visitors. Meanwhile, Liverpool are desperately searching for a win on the road as Jurgen Klopp’s men battle to keep their top-four hopes alive.
