Brandon Vanlalremdika struck in the 53rd minute to see Aizawl go top of the table...

Aizawl continued their imperious form at home as they swatted aside Chennai City 1-0 at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Aizawl.

Brandon Vanlalremdika's solitary strike in the 53rd minute was enough to see Khalid Jamil's side make it six wins out of seven at home.

Jamil made only change from the side that got the better of East Bengal with Ashutosh Mehta replacing Lalruatthara in the side.

Soundararajan meanwhile made two changes with Lalnunmawia and Zakeer Mundampara replacing Haroon Fakhruddin and S. Nandakumar.

Giggs: Rashford is an exciting prospect

The home side dominated from the word go with Mahmud Al Amenah testing goalkeeper Karanjit Singh with a rasping free kick within the first five minutes after Zakeer had handled the ball just outside the box.

In the 17th minute Laldanmawia's weak shot from Jayesh Rane's corner was almost turned in goal by an opportunistic header from Zohmingliana Ralte but Karanjit did well to punch it clear. A period of total domination from the home side followed with Karanjit having to weather a storm.

First it was Brandon's shot off a delightful Laldanmawia cross that just went over the bar and then it was Al Amenah himself who could not apply enough power after being set up by Brandon as he saw his shot held easily by Karanjit.

In what was a rare foray into the Aizawl half, Charles had a chance to take a pop at goal after being played in by Denson Devadas but Eze Kingsley was there at hand to block the striker's effort.

At the half hour mark, Karanjit was again called into action as he pulled off a smart save after Stephan Kamo had found space in the box to get a shot out.

The first half drew to a close with Aizawl having a penalty shout waved off after Kamo fell to the ground dramatically in the 38th minute before Karanjit again held on from Alfred Jaryan's shot from outside the box.

The second half began like the first with Laldanmawia being desperately unlucky to smash his shot across the crossbar with Karanjit well beaten. This was after the industrious midfielder, Al Amenah had again easily bisected the hapless Chennai defense in the 52nd minute.

Yet it was in the very next minute that the home side surged into the lead and deservedly so. Kamo did ever so well to spot Brandon's untracked run into the box and he chipped a perfect ball onto his path that the winger could literally see it into the goal.

The goal broke Chennai's stubborn resistance and the match did not see much goalmouth action till the 82nd minute when Karanjit again pulled off a save after Laldanmawia let rip a volley from the edge of the box.

Karanjit was not given any reprieve as he again had to be alert to punch out Al Amenah's piledriver from outside the box in added time.

The win puts Aizawl bang on top of the table while Chennai are just two points off Chruchill who are rock bottom.
