Nedbank Cup: Predicting Mamelodi Sundowns' XI to face Marumo Gallants

The Tshwane giants' camp was hit by a flu outbreak last weekend, while several players are currently out nursing injuries.

However, Themba Zwane, Bradley Ralani and Lebohang Maboe are expected to return to action after missing the game against Royal AM due to flu.

The Sundowns captain is set to return to the starting line-up having been rested in the last few weeks after leading the team to a win over Royal AM in the semi-finals on April 30.

Onyango will be hoping to lead Sundowns to their sixth Nedbank Cup triumph having been the hero as Masandawana won the 2021 MTN8 title.

    CENTRAL DEFENDER - Grant Kekana

The versatile defender has had a successful debut campaign at Sundowns and he had been nominated for the 2021-22 PSL Defender of the Season award.

    CENTRAL DEFENDER - Mosa Lebusa

The Sundowns defence looked shaky against Royal as they conceded two goals with Divine Lunga playing out of position as a central defender.

Lebusa, who was an unused substitute against Thwihli Thwahla, is most likely to be recalled to the starting line-up.

The 2021-22 Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament nominee was given a well-deserved rest against Royal AM having been a permanent fixture in the Downs midfield this term.

Jali will be looking to dominate the midfield battle and put the Tshwane giants in a good position to win the final.

  • Lebohang Maboe, Mamelodi Sundowns, April 2022Backpagepix

    CENTRAL MIDFIELDER - Lebohang Maboe

The Bafana Bafana international is set to return to the starting line-up having flourished in midfield since he recovered from his long term injury.

Maboe was rested against Stellenbosch FC on May 14 and missed the game against Thwihli Thwahla due to flu.

  • Themba Zwane, Mamelodi Sundowns, October 2021Backpagepix

The former Mpumalanga Black Aces playmaker will also return to the team as he looks to win the Nedbank Cup for the third time in his career.

Zwane is likely to be up against Gallants' defensive midfielder Miguel Timm, who has been very influential for Bahlabane Ba Ntwa this season.

  • Thabiso Kutumela, Mamelodi Sundowns, December 2021Backpagepix

    RIGHT FORWARD - Thabiso Kutumela

The experienced forward marked his return to the starting line-up with an eye-catching performance against Royal AM and he scored the opening goal.

Kutumela, who can play across the front line, could be rewarded with another starting berth against a club from his home province, Limpopo.

    LEFT FORWARD - Gaston Sirino

The quality attacker produced a Man of the Match performance against Thwihli Thwahla - opening the scoring before providing the assist for Kutumela's goal.

Sirino has the ability to single-handedly inspire Masandawana to a victory over Dan Malesela's side.

    CENTRE FORWARD - Peter Shalulile

The highly-rated striker has enjoyed another brilliant season having netted 29 goals across all competitions including one in the Nedbank Cup.
