Mamelodi Sundowns Player Ratings: Coetzee shows his class, Zwane disappoints

Last Updated

Rivaldo Coetzee, Lyle Lakay and Ricardo Nascimento were amomg the top performers for Mamelodi Sundowns in their 5-6 penalty defeat to TTM in a Nedbank Cup semi-final game at Loftus on Sunday.

  1. Ricardo Goss, Mamelodi Sundowns, January 2021,

    GOALKEEPER: Ricardo Goss - 6

Goss had a very quiet game – he didn’t have a noteworthy save to make, and had very few crosses and balls into his box to deal with. Wasn’t able to make any saves in the shoot-out though.
  2. Thapelo Morena, Mamelodi Sundowns, November 2020

    RIGHT-BACK: Thapelo Morena - 7

Morena had a strong game in defence and added a lot to the Sundowns attack, on another day he may have had an assist.

  3. Rushine De Reuck, Mamelodi Sundowns, March 2021

    CENTRE-BACK: Rushine De Reuck - 6

De Reuck did little wrong – always seemed comfortable and in control at the back alongside Ricardo Nascimento and ensured TTM barely had a sniff at goal before being substituted in the 103rd minute.

  4. Ricardo Nascimento of Mamelodi Sundowns, March 2020

    CENTRE-BACK: Ricardo Nascimento - 7

A commanding performance from the skipper who barely put a foot wrong in defence and also got his side playing from the back with some good distribution.

  5. Aubrey Modiba, Mamelodi Sundowns, January 2021

    LEFT-BACK: Aubrey Modiba - 5

Modiba never really got into the cup tie, and could have added more to the attack as well - he wasn't at his usual maurading best, Subbed on 103 minutes.

  6. Themba Zwane, Mamelodi Sundowns, November 2020

    RIGHT-WING: Themba Zwane - 5

Zwane had one of his poorer games by his own high standards. Guilty of missing an open goal in the second half of regulation play and was on the periphery for most of the afternoon.
  7. Rivaldo Coetzee, Mamelodi Sundowns, January 2021

CENTRAL MIDFIELD: Rivaldo Coetzee - 7

Another masterful performance as the midfield holding player, a position from where Coetzee dictated the play. Always seemed a step ahead of his opponents, kept things simple and kept his side ticking over.

  8. Sphelele Mkhulise, Mamelodi Sundowns, December 2020

CENTRAL MIDFIELDER: Sphelele Mkhulise - 6

It was a bit of a mixed afternoon for Mkhulise who had some good moments but also made a few mistakes. Worked hard and brought energy and bite to midfield.

  9. Gaston Sirino, Mamelodi Sundowns, January 2021

    LEFT-WING: Gaston Sirino - 6

Sirino didn't do much in the first half, but was really starting to warm-up to the game, enjoying a couple of positive moments, when he was replaced by Sibusiso Vilakazi on 71 minutes.

  10. Brandon Theron TTM Lesedi Kapinga and Rivaldo Coetzee Mamelodi Sundowns

    NUMBER 10/CENTRAL MIDFIELDER: Lesedi Kapinga - 5

Kapinga made a bright start to the game and had two good chances around the 10-minute mark. But his influence waned as proceedings went on and he was taken off in the 54th minute.

  11. Peter Shalulile, Mamelodi Sundowns, December 2020

    STRIKER: Peter Shalulile - 6

Didn’t quite work out for the Namibian who failed to really get himself into any good goal-scoring positions, for a change. Was always willing to offer an outlet up front though and grafted hard.

  12. Lyle Lakay, Mamelodi Sundowns, November 2020

    SUB: Lyle Lakay - 7

Lakay came on for Kapinga in the 54th minute and made a positive impact on the game for his side. Was twice denied scoring by Arubi.
  13. Sibusiso Vilakazi, Mamelodi Sundowns, August 2018

    SUB: Sibusiso Vilakazi - 6

Lively, made things happen in the 50 minutes he played, and took his penalty well. But probably should have scored.
  14. Brian Mandela Onyango, Mamelodi Sundowns, January 2021

    SUB: Brian Onyango - 6

Played the final 20 minutes and had a goal ruled out for offside and was possibly lucky not to concede a penalty.
  15. Hlompho Kekana, Mamelodi Sundowns, November 2020

    SUB: Hlompho Kekana - 5

Cruelly for the club captain, it was Kekana who was the only player not to convert in the penalty shoot-out, his effort saved by Arubi. Had a fairly quiet match after replacing De Reuck in the 103rd minute.
