Indian Super League: Managers to have coached multiple clubs

Arguably one of the best managers to have tested himself in the ISL, former FC Goa coach excited the country with his attractive style of football, while ensuring that the results arrived too. The Spaniard managed to make the playoffs in each of his three seasons with the Gaurs. In 2018, a defeat to Chennaiyin concluded their campaign. In 2019, Bengaluru edged past the Gaurs in the final to win their first-ever title.
As is tradition, the side that lost the ISL final went on to claim the Super Cup one month later. Lobera hence ensured his time with the Gaurs was not devoid of silverware.

In the 2019-20 season, Goa managed to win the ISL shield by topping the table in the league phase. However, Lobera was sacked before they achieved this feat. Mumbai City spotted their opportunity and took it. The Spaniard is now set to lead the Islanders ahead of the 2020-21 season.

Albert Roca led Bengaluru to a runners-up finish in their debut season (2017-18) in the ISL. The Blues amassed 40 points in 18 games, eight more than any other side that season. After breezing through the playoffs against Pune City, they were pitted against Chennaiyin FC in the summit clash. John Gregory's side staged a resilient show in the final to win yet another ISL title.
Roca then won the Super Cup with Bengaluru to ensure he got his hands on silverware in his final season at the club. Earlier this year, Hyderabad FC announced that they acquired the Spaniard's signature and he will take charge from next season.

Dutch manager Eelco Schattorie endured contrasting stints at NorthEast and Kerala. With the Highlanders, he beat the odds to finish fourth in the league phase of the 2018-19 season of the ISL. The Highlanders even managed an upset over favourites Bengaluru FC in the first leg of the semi-final but the Blues turned it around in the second leg to win the tie.
After an impressive season with NorthEast, Schattorie attracted interest from Kerala who had just sacked Vingada after a poor stint as James' replacement. The Dutchman could not deliver at the southern club and finished with just 19 points, 10 points below the last playoff spot. This led to his sacking at the end of the season.

The Spaniard was the coach of two ISL sides, Delhi Dynamos during the 2017-18 season and FC Pune City for a brief while during the 2018-19 season.
The former Real Madrid midfielder was an advocate of the possession-based philosophy but took time to implement his methods at Delhi. The Dynamos' poor start meant that they would miss out on a play-off spot but some of their results in the latter half of the season under Portugal was commendable.

This led to Pune City roping him in the next season but after a poor start to the campaign, he was relieved of his duties quickly.

Portuguese boss Nelo Vingada had two stints with ISL clubs - with NorthEast United FC in 2016 and Kerala Blasters in 2019. However, none of those witnessed any huge achievement or silverware.
With the Highlanders, Vingada missed the playoffs by just two points. They could have made the top-four with a win over Kerala but a 1-0 defeat ensured their journey reached a conclusion during the league phase.

In 2019, the Portuguese joined a sinking ship in Kerala midway through the season after David James was sacked. The Blasters won just one of the seven games with Vingada in-charge.

Nelo Vingada

Steve Coppell is the only manager to have taken charge of three different clubs in the ISL. The Englishman joined Kerala Blasters in 2016 and led them to a top-two finish in the league phase of the tournament. They then brushed past Delhi Dynamos after a well-contested game of football that required a penalty shootout to decide the winner.
However, the shootout was not kind to Coppell and his men in the final as ATK won the title for the second time. ISL 2017-18 debutants Jamshedpur FC signed the Englishman after he parted ways with the southern club. He managed a respectable fifth-place finish and moved on to ATK ahead of the 2018-19 season.

ATK finished sixth that season and could not go beyond the semifinal in the Super Cup. Coppell then left the club with his one-year contract with the club coming to an end.

The most successful coach in the Indian Super League (ISL) has tested himself at two ISL clubs so far - ATK and Pune City FC. Antonio Habas led ATK to the ISL title in the inaugural season of the tournament in 2014. After two seasons at the club, the Stallions roped the Spaniard in after finishing seventh in the second edition, garnering just 15 points.
However, Habas' stint with Pune was not as memorable as he could manage only a sixth-place finish. In 2019, he was reunited with ATK ahead of the sixth edition of the ISL. He then created history by becoming the first manager to win two ISL trophies as ATK became the first team to win it thrice.
