Let's wrap up this week's review with some lighter news. Fans of Football Manager in the mid-2010s will remember Scottish wonderkid Oliver Burke, who was deemed such a promising prospect that he was snapped up by RB Leipzig as a teenager. The winger's career hasn't quite panned out as he may have hoped, bouncing around Europe and the UK without ever finding a proper home, though most of his success has still come in Germany, firstly with Werder Bremen and now Union Berlin.
Indeed, Burke has become the first Scottish player to ever register a hat-trick in the Bundesliga, scoring three times in Union's 4-3 win away at Champions League outfit Eintracht Frankfurt. All three goals had some beauty about them, too. Firstly, he raced away through the middle of the pitch on a swift breakaway and slotted home, before doubling his tally after the break with a powerful header at the back post. Minutes after securing his brace, Burke was on the scoresheet again, once more using his pace to burst in behind and this time dink goalkeeper Kaua Santos.
Despite his outstanding solo contribution, Burke hailed the team effort from Union in a tough away game. "We had to stay highly focused every second and pushed ourselves to our maximum as a team," he said. "Each player brings different strengths to the team and we brought the best of each of them onto the pitch. I'm happy that we were able to celebrate the victory with the fans."
Burke has now bettered his goal tally in all but two of his seasons as a fully-fledged professional footballer, with this year's total so far of three only bettered by his returns in 2018-19 at Celtic (four) and last season at Werder (five).
