Gor Mahia Team News: Injuries, suspensions v RS Berkane

Goal Kenya.
Everything you need to know from the K’Ogalo camp as they prepare to face visiting Moroccan side RS Berkane in the Caf Confederation Cup

Gor Mahia will face Renaissance Sportive de Berkane in a Caf Confederation Cup quarter-final match hoping to get a win that will help them advance to the semis.

Winning at home is always key to making it to the next level of these competitions and K’Ogalo will need to get a convincing result to take to Morocco for the return leg.

However, the Kenyan champions will have to achieve that minus some of their key players and the coach.

    Hassan Oktay (Suspension)

The Cypriot was sent to the stands by Moroccan referee Redouane Jiyed for questioning and protesting some of the decisions during their final Group D match against Petro Atletico of Angola. Assistant coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno will have to step up and do the job against the Moroccan side on Sunday.

  2. Goal Kenya.

    Boniface Oluoch (Injury)

The experienced custodian started the two games in Group D against Zamalek and Petro Atletico before youngster Peter Odhiambo took over. However, Oluoch is set to miss the first leg clash against RS Berkane owing to a shoulder injury.
  3. Goal Kenya.

    Shafik Batambuze (Suspension)

It will be a blow for Gor Mahia to face the North African side without the services of the Ugandan left back. He was wrongly booked in the 76th minute after a Petro Atletico player fouled him, but his intentional elbow on the opponent two minutes later warranted him the red card. He will miss the two legs.

    Ernest Wendo (Suspension)

Wendo was punished in the 36th minute for a crazy tackle on Petro Atletico player Eston Felix that left the referee with no option but hand him a straight red card and just like Batambuze, he will miss the two legs.

    Jacques Tuyisenge (Suspension)

The Rwandese captain has scored four goals for Gor Mahia in the competition this season but will not be part of the team on Sunday owing to accumulated yellow cards. It is a huge blow for the Kenyan side that desperately needs a win at home before the return leg.

    Harun Shakava (Suspension)

The Gor Mahia captain has missed most Caf matches this season due to suspension and will once again sit out the first leg after receiving two yellow cards. His leadership skills at the back will be missed but again it will give defender Charles Momanyi a chance to show how good he is.
