Raja Casablanca edged Esperance 2-1 to clinch the Caf Super Cup on Friday. Goal looks at some interesting statistics from the match

    Esperance lost to Raja Casablanca despite overwhelmingly dominating the second half with 64.8% possession to Raja’s 35.2%.

    Also Esperance’s second half passing success rate of 82.5% could not carry them against Raja’s 57.4%

    #2 Banoun the hero

    Hero of the night and defender Badr Benoun who grabbed Raja’s winning goal had two shots at goal all match with one of them proving to the decider. 

    For a defender Benoun made three interceptions, four possession recoveries and lost five balls.

    He was also beaten by the opponent once and committed three fouls, one resulting in him being booked in the 86th minute.

    Raja lost the ball more in both halves. In the first half they gave away possession on 72 occasions against Esperance’s 70.

    In the other stanza they lost the ball 61 times while Esperance recorded 60 instances.

    In the end Raja had a lower ball possession of 43.9%, although interestingly they dominated the first half with 51.1%.

    With a total of 304 passes, Raja passed the ball less than Esperance who knocked the ball around 397 times.

    The Moroccans committed 21 fouls against Esperance’s 11.

    In the end, Raja had four players shown yellow yards while Esperance had just two.
