Which teams have qualified for the AFC Asian Cup the most number of times?

The 18th edition of the AFC Asian Cup will be held between June 16 to July 16, 2023. China were initially supposed to host the competition but on May 14, the Chinese Football Association (CFA) informed the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) that they will not be able to host the flagship competition due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The AFC is yet to decide an alternate host but a decision is expected to be made soon as they are set to appoint a task force to decide the matter.

Qatar are the defending champions of the Asian Cup, winning their maiden title in 2019 beating Japan in the final. They have already qualified for the 2023 edition and will be appearing in the tournament for the 11th time.

Japan are the most successful team in the history of the Asian Cup, winning it four times in the past. The last time they won the title was in 2011 in Doha.

They are followed by Iran and Saudi Arabia who have lifted the trophy three times each. Iran have also appeared in the Asian Cup the most number of times (15) along with South Korea.
