Justin Meram picked an excellent time for his first career hat trick.
With his visiting Columbus Crew tied with the Montreal Impact in the 92nd minute of action, Meram capped off a Crew counterattack with a low finish which gave his side a 3-2 advantage it would not relinquish.
The goal completed Meram’s hat trick after the attacker had picked up a first-half brace which initially gave the Crew a 2-0 lead heading into the break.
However, the Impact battled back with second-half goals from Ignacio Piatti and Anthony Jackson-Hamel to level the proceedings at 2-2 by the 77th minute.
It appeared the Crew would once again be headed for dropped points from a winning position, something that plagued the side in its disappointing 2016 campaign. But Meram’s goal would ensure the visitors left happy and with three points.
The hat trick brings Meram's goal total in 2017 up to seven, which puts him one behind the league leader Erick Torres.
