He hasn't played for the club in nearly two years, but the striker is poised to reap the rewards of Villa's return to the top-flight

Aston Villa's promotion to the Premier League is worth a reported AU $312 million in revenue and outcast striker Ross McCormack is particularly set to benefit from that windfall despite not playing for the club since September 2017.

According to The Mirror, the 32-year-old's weekly wage will nearly double to $127,000 as a result of Villa's promotion and a clause in his contract which still has a year remaining.

McCormack was signed by Villa from Fulham in 2016 but the Scottish attacker failed to live up to his significant price tag - scoring just three times across 20 league appearances.

Failing to secure his spot in the side, McCormack has subsequently been sent out on loan to Nottingham Forest, Melbourne City, Central Coast Mariners and Motherwell

It was in Australia with Melbourne City in the 2017/18 season that the striker found his best form as he scored 14 goals across 17 A-League appearances.

But injuries this season have seen McCormack make just nine appearances across two loans spells with the Mariners and Motherwell.

Despite that poor run, he's still set to land a stunning pay rise with Villa should the club be unable to move him on permanently before next season.

After being relegated in 2016, Dean Smith's side secured promotion back up to the English top-flight after beating Derby County 2-1 in the Championship play-off final on Monday.
