Despite a draw with Congo DR, the 25-year-old is highly confident that the Super Eagles side will excel at the global showpiece

Brian Idowu is optimistic about Nigeria's chances at the World Cup, stressing that the team's unity will inspire them to a good outing in Russia.

The 26-year-old has made four appearances for the Super Eagles since he made his international debut in an incredible 4-2 win against Argentina on November 14, 2017 in Krasnodar.

Having survived a five-man eviction, the Amkar Perm man, who is unsure of his place, will be hopeful of earning a spot in Gernot Rohr's 23-man final list when released on June 4.

Nonetheless, the Russia-born defender, who featured in the Super Eagles' last Monday's 1-1 draw against Congo DR, believes that the mix of youth and experience would help the team to glory.

“There has been pressure from my family for us to come to Russia and do well," Idowu told media.

"So, we have no option than to perform beyond expectation. I believe the youthfulness in the team will be an added advantage for us.

"As people can see in our previous games, we are energetic with many quick players in the squad.

“We have a very good mix of young with a few experienced players in the team. And we are happy together, togetherness is what is going to inspire us to do well in Russia.”

Nigeria will begin their World Cup campaign in Group D against Croatia on June 16 at the Kaliningrad Stadium before taking on Iceland and later Argentina.
