The Reds had reached the final last season as well but failed to win it as they lost to a mighty Real Madrid side. They have reached three European finals in Jurgen Klopp’s and regime and lost the first two. They have a chance to redeem themselves and would want to win their sixth Champions League title and finish a wonderful season on a high.
As Klopp’s men are gearing up to face Tottenham in Madrid, we look back at their journey in the Champions League this season.
Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 Liverpool
Liverpool registered home wins over Paris Saint-Germain (3-2) and Crvena Zvezda (4-0) but their struggles away from home continued as they went down againt the French giants in the return tie after losing to Napoli (1-0) and Crvena Zvezda (2-0) on the road.
Juan Bernat (13') capitalised on poor defending and put PSG ahead and the hosts doubled their advantage through Neymar in the 37th minute goal that left Liverpool on the brink of an early Champions League exit. James Milner (45+1') scored a penalty but Klopp's side could not find a crucial equaliser at the Parc des Princes which meant they had to beat pool leaders Napoli at Anfield on matchday six to have any chance of progression.
Liverpool 1-0 Napoli
Mohamed Salah's (34') wonderful first-half goal gave Liverpool a 1-0 win over Napoli at Anfield, keeping their home record perfect and this earning the Reds qualification from Group C of the Champions League at the visitors' expense.
Napoli needed only a draw to qualify but Carlo Ancelotti's men went down to a narrow defeat, Salah once again proving the Liverpool hero. The Egyptian got past two Napoli defenders with stunning turn of pace before finishing from a tight angle.
