Swallows coach Kerr on Kaizer Chiefs' Solomons transfer: I took a gamble

Swallows FC head coach Dylan Kerr has divulged how he played a role in Dillon Solomons' big transfer to Kaizer Chiefs.

The exciting right-wing-back-come-winger was among the four new signings which were announced by the glamour club of South African football on Monday night.

The recent 2021-22 campaign saw Solomon become one of the best full-backs in the Premier Soccer League having been converted into a right wing-back by coach Kerr, who had joined the club in late November last year.

Blessed with blistering speed and good dribbling ability, Solomons scored four goals from 24 PSL matches and Kerr believes deploying the 26-year-old as a wing-back helped catch Amakhosi's eye.

"He is a hard-working player. He is a good professional. He is what we call a gem of a professional. We worked hard on the training field and it showed in the games," Kerr told GOAL

"[However], he is still learning and he can still be better. He still got things to improve on, [and] while it is sad he has to see him leave Swallows.

"He wouldn't have gotten that move [transfer to Chiefs] if I didn't take the gamble and made him an attacking right-back or attacking wIng back," the experienced mentor continued.

"This is because he wasn't playing or getting regular game time under the previous coaching staff."

Prior to the English tactician's arrival at Swallows, Solomons was used mainly as a bit-part player by coach Brandon Truter.

"I saw something in him when I decided to play him as an attacking full-back. He got his move which he thoroughly deserves," Kerr concluded.

Solomons, who is a former Stellenbosch FC player, has joined Chiefs on a four-year deal.
