Sunderland v Leeds United Betting: Pragmatism to condition opening exchanges

10:00 IST 18/08/2017
Sunderland
These two teams have yet to taste defeat so far this season and our tipster is expecting a tight tussle when the Black Cats play host to the Whites

Both Sunderland and Leeds United will be aiming to preserve their unbeaten start to the season when they meet at Stadium of Light on Saturday evening.

Having settled for a share of the spoils in their Championship curtain raiser against Derby County, the Black Cats claimed a hard fought 1-0 win against Bury in the League Cup before turning on the style in an impressive 3-1 win against Norwich City at Carrow Road last weekend.

Simon Grayson's side seized an early initiative against Sheffield Wednesday in midweek, but the Black Cats were pegged back by the Owls and, ultimately, were held at Hillsborough by Carlos Carvalhal's men.

Back on Wearside this weekend, Sunderland will be determined to make an immediate return to winning ways and the hosts are chalked up as a 7/5 (2.40) chance with bet365 to claim their first home win of the campaign against the Whites.

Leeds started the season in superb style, claiming a thrilling 3-2 win against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on the opening weekend of the campaign and Thomas Christiansen's men followed up with a thumping 4-1 victory against Port Vale in the League Cup.

Since then, though, Leeds have been left frustrated, for they have been forced to settle for back-to-back goalless draws at Elland Road, against Preston North End and Fulham respectively.

Christiansen's charges can be backed at 19/10 (2.90)  to respond with victory on Wearside, with  9/4 (3.25) that the Whites are forced to settle for a single point for a third successive time in the Championship.

There have been goals at both ends in all three of Sunderland's Championship matches so far this season and there is  4/5 (1.80) that the trend continues this weekend, but the goals may not flow freely here.

Indeed, there is  3/4 (1.75) that there are fewer than three goals scored - a selection that would have landed in four of the six league matches that these two teams have contested between them thus far this term.

Backing a tight tussle could prove profitable for there has been no goals in either of Leeds' last two matches, while the Black Cats' have scored more than once in just one of their four competitive outings thus far this term.

The 13/8 (2.63) quote, therefore, for a goalless first half could well offer decent value for punters ahead of Saturday's Championship clash on Wearside.

0-0 at half time at 13/8 (2.63) for a 1pt stake with bet365
