Yanga will welcome Ethiopia’s Wolayta Dicha in the CAF Confederation Cup knock out round first leg tie on Saturday. The game will be held at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium, Dar es Salaam.
The game is important for both teams because the winner of the tie will be guaranteed a place in the group stage of the tournament, and both teams will want a positive result to take to the return leg in Ethiopia.
The Jangwani Boys who were frustrated by Singida United on Sunday in the Federation Cup will be without four of their key players who have been suspended for the clash after picking up a second yellow card in the last game against Township Rollers.
Those players are Obrey Chirwa (forward), Papy Tshishimbi and Juma Said (midfielders) and Kelvin Yondani (defender).
Speaking to Goal , Yanga’s General Secretary Charles Mkwasa said that it is a big blow to play without their key players in such an important match but promised that they will use the available players to fight for victory.
“It is a massive blow for us, but Coach George Lwandamina will find a solution in training and for sure we will fight for a home victory,” said Mkwasa.
Yanga will be eager to get a home win in order to ease pressure when they play away.
The Jangwani Boys have been relegated to this tournament after being knocked out of the CAF Champions League by Botswana’s Township Rollers.
Yanga failed to use home ground advantage in the first leg after accepting a 2-1 defeat and then drawing away, a move that was much criticized by pundits and the Tanzanian fans.
However, Dicha has been a surprise package in the tournament this season. In their debut season, they have managed to kick out of the tournament Zimamoto and Zamalek who are both more experienced compared to them.
