Orlando Pirates defender Matlaba opens case of attempted murder

Bucs defender Matlaba has opened a case of attempted murder at the Rabie Ridge Police Station

Reports have surfaced that Orlando Pirates defender Thabo Matlaba has opened a case of attempted murder following an incident that occurred last Sunday.

According to Sunday World, the 29-year-old full-back was allegedly embroiled in an argument with a group of men who were travelling in an Uber taxi.

Matlaba is believed to have been accused of reckless driving which saw a gun battle ensue at the Phomolong Section in Tembisa in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The incident reportedly resulted in one person being hospitalised.

Rabie Ridge Police Station spokesman Mofana Masela has confirmed that the South African international has indeed opened a case, following the incident.

“I can confirm that Thabo Matlaba opened a case about attempted murder," Masela said.

“The matter is still under investigation. The incident happened last Saturday (early hours of Sunday) in the morning at 04h00. There was shooting of somebody. Both Matlaba and the other person opened cases of attempted murder at Rabie Ridge Police Station. It’s alleged that somebody came and just started shooting. It’s alleged that Matlaba’s car and some Toyota Corolla belonging to another person were shot at. No arrests have been made and both cases are under investigation,” Masela concluded.
