The 49-year-old touched down in Accra on Wednesday, ending weeks of confusion between the club's supporters and management, after earlier reports suggested that he may not return following three months of unpaid salaries and bonuses.
Hearts are scheduled to play fierce rivals Asante Kotoko in the second leg of the Ghana @60 celebration game on December 24 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium but Nuttall insists he wasn't aware of such arrangements before he left in November.
“There was never a fixed date for my return from the UK," Nuttall said.
"This was because when the previous season ended, there was no 60th-anniversary game as it is coming on 24th December. This is a new thing that has happened.
“So it took me a bit of a time to work out how we're going to approach the preparations for the game. When we are going to start and how we were going to start as well as the club arranging a ticket to get me back were all decisions taken very late," he added.
Goal understands that former New Edubiase United midfielder Aseidu Attobrah has joined Hearts on a one-week trial.
