MFM’s Jesse Akila is confident he can surpass the goal record in the Nigeria Professional Football League following a stunning display on Wednesday.

The forward, who was making his second appearance for the club and home debut, opened the scoring for the Olukoya Boys as they battled to a 2-1 victory over FC IfeanyiUbah at the Agege Stadium on Wednesday.

And Akila is hopeful he can surpass Enyimba striker, Mfon Udoh who holds the record for the most goals scored in a Nigerian top-flight season with 23 efforts.

“I am very excited with the goal and I believe it is the beginning of many other goals to come,” Akila said.

“My target is to break the goalscoring record in the NPFL - that has always been my motivation.

“Every day when I come to the pitch, during training, I am motivated because I want to make a name for myself.

“My aim for this season is to score 24 goals.”

The newly recruited striker expressed his appreciation to the manager, Fidelis Ilechukwu - whom he celebrated his maiden effort with - for bringing him into the team.

“If I should tell you how I joined this team it is just because of him [Fidelis Ilechukwu].

“He saw me and gave me a chance. He wants to work with me. He gave me the opportunity to announce myself in the NPFL,” he concluded.

Akila will be looking to continue this impressive form for his side in their next away game to reigning champions, Plateau United at the Jos Township Stadium on Sunday.
