Lim Teong Kim's charges turned in a five-star performance in the 2018 AFC U-16 Championship opening match, thumping Tajikistan in their Group A match on Thursday.

Malaysia vs Tajikistan highlights

Sikh Izhan Nazrel - 6/10

The goalkeeper turned in a convincing performance behind a defence that perhaps was not as tight as the rest of the team, making routine saves out of aerial balls and long-range low shots. However, this was undone in the dying minutes of the match, when a needless, reckless tackle by him resulted in a penalty and his sending off.

Firdaus Ramli - 7/10

The defender had a tough night, but kept his cool and line to keep the Tajikistan forwards out.

Hariz Mansor (C) - 7/10

All in all, the skipper turned in a commanding performance in defence despite the early nerves, but must do much better when going up against the more-fancied Thailand and Tajikistan. He even had to moonlight as a goalkeeper after Izhan was sent off with Lim having already made three substitutions, and although he managed to keep a last-gasp penalty kick out, he could not stop Islom Zairov scoring from the rebound.

Raimi Shamsul - 7/10

Raimi turned in a commendable performance to keep the Tajikistan players outside of the final third area.

Zikri Khalili - 7/10

The defender did what was asked of him, and gave the coaching staff very little to complain about.

Alif Mutalib - 8/10

The midfielder provided an assist and bagged a goal from the spot himself.

Firdaus Kaironnisam - 7/10

Firdaus performed well in the middle of the park, helping Malaysia put constant pressure on their opponents.

Umar Hakeem Suhar Redzuan - 7/10

The midfielder was part of an engine room that kept going, and assisted the hosts' fourth goal.

Najmuddin Akmal - 8/10

The forward paired well with hat-trick hero Luqman Hakim Shamsudin, assisting the opening goal before scoring the second from the spot himself, after Luqman was fouled in the box.

Luqman Hakim Shamsudin - 9/10 (Man of the Match)

The forward announced his arrival at the continental stage in stunning fashion, scoring four goals against the Tajiks. He showed his hunger throughout the match, constantly attacking the opponents' final third and looking for gaps with his runs. Luqman could have had more, had he not missed a couple of chances.

Substitutions:

Amirul Azzim Ruzki - 7/10

The forward came on midway through the second half, and his fresh pair of legs made sure his team kept turning the screw on Tajikistan. He even won a second half penalty for Malaysia that was then put away by Alif.

Alias Alan, Harith Naem Jaineh - NA

Substitutions made with quite some time left, but the torrential rain and the heavy pitch hindered them from showing their abilities.
