Lobi Stars off to South Africa for crucial Caf Champions League tie

Nigeria’s reigning league champions are off to the southern African nation ahead of this weekend’s Caf Champions League tie with the Brazilians

Lobi Stars have left the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja on Wednesday for South Africa ahead of Saturday’s crucial Caf Champions League tie with Mamelodi Sundowns in Pretoria.

The Pride of Benue travelled with 18 players and other officials for the make or mar clash in Pretoria’s Lucas Moripe Stadium to stay alive in the competition.

One of the players on the trip, Austin Ogunye disclosed shortly before they boarded the plane to South Africa that they are leaving with high hopes and are determined to prove their doubters wrong against the Brazilians.

“We are almost leaving for South Africa ahead of our Saturday clash with Mamelodi Sundowns. We are in high spirits and are ready to go all out for the three points,” Ogunye told Goal.

“It was a bad weekend for us after the home draw with Katsina United. We know that we must forget about that game and focus on the weekend game which is very important for us. We got to Abuja on Tuesday and are raring to go.

“We have done our homework well on our opponents and we are expecting a good result in South Africa. We know the result won’t come on the platter but we are ready to give the tie our best shot.”

Lobi Stars are in the fourth position in Group B with four points from four games.
