Kenya Premier League Limited has announced the dates for this year's award gala that will be held at the Kenya School of Government in Kabete.
According to KPL CEO Jack Oguda, the annual fete will be held on October 25. “We have the awards set for October 25 at the Kenya School of Government and we have written to league coaches and captains on the same,” Oguda told Goal.
Following controversies on two similar awards that were held after the 2017 season, Football Kenya Federation wrote a stern note to partners to host one awarding event this year and Oguda says they are in charge.
Sports Journalists Association of Kenya feted some players with KPL holding later its own gala. It is confirmed that nominations will be done this Thursday at the KPL office in Westlands, Nairobi.
Oguda says they have contacted SJAK on the same but no feedback so far. However, SJAK President Chris Mbaisi has refuted claims of any contact by KPL. “We are not aware of the ongoing plans since we have not been involved. KPL is doing things on their own. We are still waiting to hear from them.”
Some of the categories that will be contested include 2018 Player of the year, best goalkeeper, best coach, best midfielder, defender, fair play team and player and the best referee.
Winners will go home with cash and trophy rewards.
