Kotoko & Hearts will struggle to win Ghana PL title, says Fianko

The former football association's chief insists that the Phobians and Porcupine Warriors can no longer dominate the top-flight like previously

Former Ghana Division One League chairman Kwame Ntow Fianko says Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak will struggle to dominate the domestic league following several changes in the current era.

The Phobians have gone seven seasons without a major trophy while Kotoko last lifted a trophy in 2014, leading to the sacking of three coaches as a result.

This season, Wafa have opened a nine-point gap between them and the two glamorous clubs after 13 games.

Hearts and Kotoko will find it difficult to wake up from their slumber because of competitions from the 'smaller' clubs,” Fianko told Space FM.

“Their ways of acquiring quality players to their fold are now outmoded and there is no way they can hide players from other clubs somewhere and later register them as they used to do in the past.

“In the past, Hearts were getting quality players from Great Olympics, Liberty Professionals but currently it’s not like that. Kotoko were taking players from B.A United, Bofoakwa Tano and Cornerstone but how is the situation now?

“Previously, they had the opportunity or ways to send players to abroad but now obviously, the smaller clubs have links in Europe and other parts of the world than Kotoko and Hearts so all the quality players prefer joining the smaller clubs.

“Even now, people are not willing to invest their monies in Hearts and Kotoko as they used to do so their dominance is over and will struggle to win the league title,’’ he added.

Hearts and Kotoko sit third and fourth position respectively on the log with 20 points each.
