Lack of game time may lead to his departure

Besiktas have approached Atletico Madrid’s 30-year old striker Kevin Gameiro according to Spanish reports, with the Frenchman looking to be on his way out to get more game time. The arrival of Diego Costa in winter transfer window is yet another blow to his playing chances.

Already failing to gain a good run of form at Atletico Madrid – starting just 7 out of 19 La Liga games this season – Gameiro will undoubtedly find it tougher with the influx of strikers at the club. In Diego Simeone’s 4-4-2 formation, he struggled to occupy a starting spot consistently, pipped by Angel Correa and Antoine Griezmann.

Despite his lack of game time, Gameiro has scored just one goal less (4) than each of Correa and Griezmann, who have scored 5 goals each in the league this season. It is worth noting that the former PSG player has a contract until 2020 with Atletico Madrid.

Besiktas, who are 4th in the Turkish League sitting 6 points behind leaders Istanbul Basaksehir, are on the lookout for a striker with their top scorer this season Cenk Tosun failing to hit the 10-goal mark, scoring just 8 in 17 games for them.
