Kenyan international opens Zambian goal tally with victory

Jesse Were’s second-half goal and a late second-half penalty earned Zesco United maximum points in the first match of the 2018 Zambian Premier League season following a hard-fought 3-1 win over Buildcon.

The Kenya international, who returned to Zambia last week after taking part in the Harambee Stars' two friendly games during the Fifa international break last week, returned to poked home Zesco United’s second goal just past the hour mark.

The reigning Zambian Super League champions found themselves chasing the game after the visitors took the lead in the first half at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.

Adams Zikiru leveled matters in the 52nd minute before handing over the scoring boot to the former Tusker forward. 

Were doubled Zesco’s advantage in the with a 66th-minute goal before the host wrapped up the evening with a late penalty converted by Lazarus Kambole.
