Kaizer Chiefs' new signing Lebogang Manyama two weeks away from debut

Despite having only recently signed for Amakhosi, fans will have to wait a bit longer to seeing their new star in action

Kaizer Chiefs’ new signing Lebogang Manyama is still a couple of weeks away before he can make his debut.

The former Premier Soccer League (PSL) Footballer of the Year, returned to SA after a disappointing stint abroad where he struggled for game time.

Following Manyama’s announcement, many fans were excited by the news and the prospect of seeing the South Africa international alongside fellow marquee signing Khama Billiat.

Nonetheless, after missing the MTN8 clash against SuperSport United where Chiefs played out to a 2-2 draw in Tshwane, Amakhosi head coach Giovanni Solinas has revealed that it will take a minimum of two weeks before the 27-year-old will be ready for action.

“I want to play attacking football. For me we are Kaizer Chiefs and we have to win games and trophies,” the Italian-born mentor told the media.

“I know only one manner [way] to win trophies and games and that’s by scoring more than the opponent,” Solinas explained.

“Lebo is our big player. The player has started a special programme to improve his fitness,” he revealed.

“I think it is for a minimum of two weeks. When Lebo is fit, I think this player could help to score goals to help us win games,” Solinas added.

“I am very happy that Lebo has come to us,” Solinas gloated.

“So, we are waiting for Lebo to improve his fitness and I’m sure when he is fit we have another option in the attackers,” he concluded.

Solinas’ revelations now mean that not only will Manyama miss the crucial midweek game against Bloemfontein Celtic, but he is also unlikely to feature in the return leg set for September 1.

Chiefs will be hoping to have the former Konyaspor forward back as they are yet to win a game in the league and with the club looking to bring an end to a three-year trophy draught, Manyama’s contribution will be integral.
