Jesse Were began his journey to a century with his 51st goal for Zesco United on Sunday.

The Kenyan international scored his 12th goal of the season in a 2-0 victory over the National Assembly in a Zambian Super League at the Edwin Imboela Stadium.

Were gave Zesco United the lead on the stroke of the hour mark before Zambian star John Chingandu scored a second just eight minutes later to help Team Ya Ziko consolidate their lead at the summit as they maintain a safe distance of eight points-lead.

Zesco United have 57 points from 23 games.

Meanwhile, Anthony Akumu was named Man of the match in the Zesco victory that also saw defender David Owino makes a return to the squad after recovering from an injury.
