JDT tie up Hariss until 2021

Johor Darul Ta'zim continued their planning for the new season with Hariss Harun becoming the latest player to commit to a longer stay at the club.

After last month's announcement of 11 players committing their future to the club, JDT have now added another pivotal figure in that list as Singaporean Hariss adds two more years to his existing contract that was initially until 2019.

Taking over the armband from Safiq Rahim this season, Hariss has also usurped the former as the most important member of the squad and the contract extension highlights his increased importance to the team.

Hariss joined the club in 2014 and it has been a journey covered with plenty of success and glory in the Malaysian Super League, FA Cup as well as the AFC Cup. Last season he was supposed to be sent out on loan to Spain but changes there meant that he has spend a year away with Home United.

Returning to the club this year, Hariss has gone from strength to strength. One of the first names on the team sheet whenever he's fit, Hariss has also chipped in with important goals, not least the one he scored away to Perak that more or less secured JDT's fifth succesive league title.

"I was just 24 when I came here to improve my game and help the team achieve things, the project was still in its early days. JDT has helped me in many ways. Next year is massive for the club with the Champions League. A club of this stature must consistently play at that level, which is a huge step up," said Hariss in the announcement on the club's Facebook page.

All signs points towards Hariss becoming the first captain to lead a Malaysian club onto the field in a AFC Champions League group stage, and what a momentous occasion that would be for the 27-year-old.
