Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune reveals that he is happy with the club's new recruits in Khama Billiat and Lebogang Manyama as the Soweto giants appear to have turned the corner.
The Soweto giants have bagged two consecutive Premier Soccer League (PSL) wins for the first time this season.
“It took us time to adjust to coach Solinas’ philosophy because he missed out on the pre-season. We’re starting to gel as a team. I’m happy with the new players,” Khune told the media on Thursday.
“We have to go to the second quarter and work hard to regain points lost,” he added.
Although, Amakhosi had a lukewarm start to their 2018/19 PSL season as they drew four matches and lost once, they have seemingly turned the corner after beating Cape Town City and Free State Stars in their previous two matches.
The Chiefs skipper has conceded just once in their last two games and they are now preparing to welcome AmaZulu at the FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Meanwhile, speaking about his personal fitness levels at Naturena, the Bafana Bafana keeper says he is working very hard to ensure that he remains in shape as he previously faced much criticism regarding his weight.
“I have been working extremely hard at the gym. I remember last season there was a game we played against Golden Arrows and I was criticised about my weight – there I was thinking it comes with age, the older you get, you know,” said Khune according to IOL.
“But I realised I was even suffering from a lot of injuries because I was overweight. I needed to do something about it,” he said.
"I went for consultations and got some advice, started eating well, drinking my fluids and putting in extra work. I weigh 84 (kilograms) and at some point I was at 92 but my target now is 78,” explained the North West-born keeper.
“I know once I get there people will say I must go test for HIV, and I will go do it in public to prove that is not the reason for the weight loss,” he concluded.
The Soweto giants will be chasing their third PSL win in a row and their clash against Usuthu who drew 3-3 against Mamelodi Sundowns last weekend will be staged at 18:00.
