Bengaluru FC have signed Indian goalkeeper Soram Poirei for the upcoming 2018-19 season, Goal can confirm. The 25-year-old Manipuri goalkeeper is all set to begin his second stint with the Blues. He had earlier played for Bengaluru from 2013 to 2015.
Soram had signed for Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan last season but was sent on loan to Indian Super League (ISL) side ATK during the January transfer window. He played in five matches for the Kolkata-based club in the latter half of the season.
Bengaluru FC released goalkeepers Lalthuamawia Ralte and Abhra Mondal at the end of last season and thus Poirei becomes the third goalkeeper in the squad after Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and Calvin Abhishek.
A product of Pune FC academy, Soram started his professional career with I-League club Shillong Lajong in 2011. After spending a season there he moved to All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) developmental side Indian Arrows.
Bengaluru FC procured the services of the young custodian from Arrows in 2013. He made his debut for Bengaluru in an I-League match against East Bengal in December 2013. This is Soram’s third ISL club. He had earlier played for Delhi Dynamos in 2016.
The goalkeeper becomes the fifth signing of the Super Cup champions this season. Earlier they had confirmed the arrival of Bhutanese striker Chencho Gyeltshen, Spanish winger Francisco Hernandez, right-back Rino Anto and winger Kean Lewis.
Bengaluru begin their new season with AFC Cup Inter-Zonal Semi-Finals against Turkmen club Altyn Asyr FC on August 22.
