ISL 2018-19: Bengaluru’s Carles Cuadrat hopes for a 'nice show' against Goa

The Spanish coach confirmed that Bengaluru FC skipper Sunil Chhetri has recovered from the injury and is fit to play against FC Goa...

In a clash of the table-toppers in Indian Super League (ISL), FC Goa and Bengaluru FC lock horns on Thursday at the Fatorda Stadium, Goa.

Bengaluru FC are three points behind league leaders Goa but have played two matches fewer. They are on the back of three consecutive away wins in Pune, Kolkata and Kerala.

Speaking on opponents Goa’s strength, Blues coach Carles Cuadrat said, “We can say that FC Goa are playing very good football and are scoring a lot of goals so I think it can be a very nice game tomorrow because our mentality is also to play nice football and score goals. I hope the match becomes a nice show for the fans.”

Sunil Chhetri suffered an ankle injury in his club’s last match before the international break against Kerala Blasters. The injury forced him to stay out of the Indian team which travelled to Jordan.

On the club captain’s fitness, the coach said, “Sunil has trained in the last two training sessions and as far as we are concerned he is fine now and he can participate in tomorrow’s (Thursday) match.”

Playing an away match is not a concern for the Spanish coach and he clarified that his team’s preparation is always the same irrespective of a home or away game.

He said, “To be honest it does not matter the way we approach the games whether it is a home or an away match. It’s true that we come from three hectic games in Pune, Kerala and Kolkata so it is going to be a challenge for us to try and get three points here. You know how competitive the league is and how difficult it is to get four victories in a row. But we will try our best to win for our supporters. We enjoy playing in front of our supporters and we have missed them for the last 40 days.”

A cautious Cuadrat also mentioned that it is tough to pick back to back wins in a competitive league like ISL but he believed that his boys have the potential to win matches.

He said, “One of the reasons why I joined Bengaluru as a head coach is because I know the players and I know that they are very competitive. So for us, it is great to go at every game and try to win. It has been very tough for us to win the last matches because all the opponents have been performing very well. I just remembered that last season we conceded four goals in this stadium. We learnt a lot from that match. I know if we want something from the match tomorrow we have to suffer again. It is our job, we practice to try and win and try to get the results.”
